    Examples of non "LGV" passenger services using High Speed Lines in Europe.

    I was on a late running EC163 the other month which used the high speed line Worgl to Innsbruck. There is also a loco hauled IRE200 in Germany which uses a high speed line (the location escapes me at the moment)

    Sorrento -> Rome Train Tips

    Great views too. If you are precious about using a normal person's mode of transport there is an hourly tourist train which has more modern stock and a much higher price. It only stops at the main tourist stations but doesn't take that much quicker

    Sorrento -> Rome Train Tips

    Use the cirvumvesiviana to Naples Central and then either Trenitalia's Freccia services or Italo up to Rome. I'd check the Man at Seat 61 website for more details

    ULEZ - public don't care / uninterested

    As with most things like this, those who shout the loudest are heard the most. Personally, even as a car lover, I think that ULEZ should be stricter. Why should my polluting 25mpg Hyundai i30N be exempt when it is likely more polluting than some cars that currently are charged? For me, the...

    Running round Railjet

    We were on a Munich - Budapest Railjet the other month and it left Munich top and tail with Taurus as the control car wasn't working. Both were powered. At Salzburg it joined a second railjet set and left with all 3 Taurus powering

    ‘Must do’ European Loco Hauled Services

    My apologies, yes it is Chur - St Moritz that is loco hauled 1714545196 The newer push pull sets are furthest from the loco with some older coaches between the new sets and the loco

    ‘Must do’ European Loco Hauled Services

    Tirano - St Moritz is loco hauled push pull and worth it for the scenery. We also did the Zurich - (Arlberg) - Prague sleeper which has a number of loco changes. EC7 down the Rhine is DB 101 hauled with an SBB panoramic coach I enjoyed the Budapest to Kosice trains. Scenery wasn't inspiring...

    Closest London airport to Southampton

    Why not fly Southampton to Edinburgh then the half hourly bus/coach between Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station? Surely the size of Southampton Airport would mean it would be much quicker than Gatwick (ie turn up 45 mins before your flight rather than 2hrs)...

    Catering/dining options on trains should be identical in First and Standard classes

    I would imagine that is because we have much less common sense here and unfortunately a culture of suing. So it wouldn't take long until someone scalded themselves then complained

    Catering/dining options on trains should be identical in First and Standard classes

    You can. Just take it through security empty with a tea bag(s) of your choice. Then go and ask at a coffee shop for some hot water. If you find one with a separate milk jug (eg Starbucks) just top up the flask as you wish. Morally wrong - debatable but you aren't using an independent coffee...

    Pacers on Long Distance Routes

    Hull to Holyhead was known to get pacers in their early years. 1713093699 I think that there used to be a Whitby - Whitehaven which was a pacer
