How long do GWR appeals take

Worth noting that after the initial flurry of posts, the OP has gone quiet since the various offers to scan the Aztec code for purchase time, and the observation of the inconsistency in their story as to when it was purchased.

Hopefully if nothing else this has given them some insight as to what the rules are regarding timing of the purchase of a ticket, and the evidence that GWR will be able to call upon if challenged, whether by their father's lawyer colleagues or whoever, as to the actions of the inspector in issuing the PF.

My interpretation of the silence is also that the ticket was purchased later than it should have been.

Hopefully the OP returns to confirm or clarify, so that we can give the best possible advice.

Especially because if the ticket was presented and scanned, and then they have been Penalty Fared, the PF would be invalid by default (assuming this ticket they bought was valid for the whole journey).

A hypothetical version of events could be that when asked for a ticket, the OP didn't have one, then got issued a PF, then went on to purchase a ticket after in order to appeal.

As others have said, how did the OP get through the gates without a ticket? Maybe a Reading to Reading West or tilehurst ticket was bought to get through the gates expecting no on train check?

If the ticket examiner witnessed you purchasing your ticket onboard the train, after it had departed, then there is a chance they would issue a penalty fare (do you think this is something they may have observed you doing?) in which case, I am intrigued as to how you accessed the station. Did you arrive in on another service?

The OP went away after we suggested we could read the time the ticket was purchased - I doubt after this length of time we will hear from them again.
