Instructor looking for train driving position

I am an ADI, (Approved Driving Instructor) qualified to teach learner drivers in exchange for financial reward. I am also a qualified train driver. I can say unequivocally, that there is absolutely nothing in common between the two professions. At all. I came onto the railway as a guard, I had...

Passed my conductor assessment with Northern- now on hold!

Well done! And don't worry about Vic, it's the premier depot!! I'd much rather be here than at Picc as everyone here is a Northern employee, and it seems a bit more "close-knit", plus everyone here is really nice and helpful to new starters. I'm sure I'll see you in the near future, enjoy your...

Passed my conductor assessment with Northern- now on hold!

Happened to me. Passed mine last Sept and they contacted me a week before a course started in Feb, so I had to wait five months. Was worth it though. Well done in making it this far.

    Northern Rail Conductor Training

No, you're worrying for no reason. All they do is a basic mobility test, think it was standing on tiptoes and moving arms, that sort of thing. Nothing too in depth! My story - applied Jan 2012, interview and assessment Sept 2012, was told there was a course in November, got an email saying I...

    Conductor at Northern

Sorry to revive an old thread, but being in a better position to comment on this - is this a reference to a certain trainer hailing from the Knowsley area? :D

    Northern Rail Conductor Training

I think it's in York for that area. The training centre for the west is in Bolton, which is luckily where I live. As for the medical, I actually had mine after my start date! Started training in February and went for my medical in March. Am close to passing out fully now - loads of routes to...

    Notice period concerns

Well, I'm currently self employed so there was no trouble for me. I would have liked more notice (was offered the job on the 15th and I start on the 25th) but I just assumed that it was because someone had let them down and I was next up. They ask how much notice is required on your...

    Conductor at Northern

Wow. Thanks very much for that :D I'm really excited, but also very nervous as this is all completely new to me, just hope I have what it takes to learn! Should be fine though. And I'm based at Victoria. I live in Bolton, so the training centre is only 10 minutes from me.

    Conductor at Northern

Well thanks everyone for all the help. You are now talking to a trainee conductor! Start on Monday. Couldn't be happier with my decision! :D And @jadam35 is there any advice you can give me on what to expect on the course? Thanks very much!

    Conductor at Northern

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I'm definitely leaning towards going for it. As has been mentioned before, I can always go back if I find out it's not for me. The only thing that worries me is things would be very lean in the three months I'm training, but I have to think long term. May...

    Conductor at Northern

Hi everyone, First post here, hopefully of many, so please be gentle! I applied for a Conductor role at the start of last year, didn't hear anything for quite a while, then out of the blue last September, I got invited for an interview then an assessment, which I passed. Was put in the...
