    A career as a signaller

On a 12 hour shift it's currently 2 x 90 minute breaks per shift. However there has been a lot of staff shortages and it's not been unknown to have shorter breaks or no breaks at all. There is also no guarantee the breaks won't be further watered down as more workstations come in.

    Public Station Pianos.

The man has 2 million YouTube subscribers and over a billion views on his videos, based on his stats he probably earns a minimum of 15k a month from his videos in YouTube ad revenue alone. So yeah, I'm sure he's gutted you don't consider him talented.

If you're scheduled to work you get what you outlined in your original post. If it's your Rest Day you get what JoeyB said.

    Signalling systems confusing trains

Are you sure you'd didn't leave from Platform 1 at Piccadilly? Both trains were stacked at Piccadilly on Platform 1 but it seems they left with the incorrect headcodes (2E73 shown as leaving Piccadilly first), and I assume this was then discovered at Stalybridge but not until the signaller...

TC remains occupied after train passed

The form would usually be completed to allow you to move the points and then cancelled, so the track would still be showing in its failed state once you had the points in the correct position. A TC indication only failure for a TC which is occupied is pretty rare though and it's be hard to...

TC remains occupied after train passed

There's a few different options here depending on your location and exact nature of the failure too. TS11 is quite explicit on when you can confirm the failures indications only and how you can run trains. Also it's rare but I've known of a release of signalling controls form to be filled in...

Missed train due to platform alteration 20 seconds before departure

Ok I'll bite. As a signaller that works Oxford Rd, the use of Platform 3, for trains that will fit on it for trains coming from the Deansgate direction is really important for keeping trains flowing over Castlefield Jn effectively, especially during disruption. I personally try and make...

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

Once again, no-one is being abused or bullied. I stood on picket lines this year, no-one was shouting anything at people choosing to work. They were asked not to go into work and to respect the picket line. If they chose to go in and work they did. However if those same people people expect...

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

Once again, no-one is being abused In a highly unionised workplace, anyone who decideds to ignore the democratic manadate of a union and break a strike is going to be unpopular with their colleagues, especially those who are stood on the picket line you may have to cross. Whether you get...

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

There is. Despite your posturing it's not hate speech. It's an emotive word, because strikebreaking is an emotive issue.

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

We are not talking about something someone has no control over here. It's not like racial slurs or comments about some other protected characteristic. Breaking a strike is a choice and choices have consequences, if you choose to break a strike be prepared for people to call you a scab.

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

And these days it brings virtually no fear to people. As you say it's now 2023 and not 1983, the repercussions of being labelled a scab are very different. No-one is being demeaned and threatened by it. It's a name. I like that you seemed to think you have the moral high ground here by not...

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

And what should the unions have done? Should the threat of further anti-union legislation meant that the unions cease industrial action and accept whatever they were given? Oh, and as for the use of the term scab for strikebreaker? Still very much in use on the railway and if I'm honest I...

    A career as a signaller

Actively enforced in same way the current 72 hour maximum is. Without hiring and training more signallers in our area it's going to lead to huge issues here People will be getting played off "Hidden" left, right and centre.

    Semaphore distants - speed signals?

A distant signal is just that, a distant signal. It's not a speed signal as there isn't such a thing. I'm not really sure what you are asking?

    A career as a signaller

For a regular man on a 12 hour roster with 2 booked Sundays a month. Around 67k a year. In areas with plenty of OT available I've seen people take around 95k. But that is working a *lot* of OT which won't actually be possible when the 60 hour week is enforced. (Being introduced Jan 24 in our...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Oh I agree, PDP's are totally a tool to beat drivers, as you say no chance of tripping OSS if you drive according to the standard because the speed is set so low, drive within the limits of the unit and trip the OSS immediately get a talking too for breaching the PDP. Ah, I understand the...
