    West Midlands Rail livery unveiled

It's like a bargain basement version of TfL

    West Midlands Rail livery unveiled

I really hate the purple and orange combination. Makes it look tacky. I think they need to scrap this and start again.

    West Midlands Rail livery unveiled

I didn't want to be rude to the person or company that made it. I am still interested in knowing who made it just out of interest.

Does anybody know which design company worked to produce this?

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Perhaps you mean this incident where a FCC train got stranded in a tunnel, PA system failed and driver had to walk through and tell everyone what was happening, then people were opening the doors and getting off. Next when the rescue train arrived the train departed with doors open and people on...

    Trivia: Nicknames we use

Goblin - Gospel Oak to Barking Line Dogbox - That hellish looking 1 car "train" up north somewhere Sheds - Class 66 One I've thought of: Abbatoirs - Class 345, due to the seat pattern looking like piles of meat alongside metal poles and finishings

Network Rail urges drivers to stop hitting low bridge

I really cannot understand WHY that driver thought it was ok to go under there? There have been huge dayglo warning signs there for ages, no buses go under there, and the bridges even look very low. Well deserved, and shocking that someone who could drive into that bridge ever worked as a lorry...

Theoretical plan to tell how busy a train will be

The issue is nearly everything is unit operated these days which is not flexible in terms of adding and removing single cars in a short timeframe. When everything was loco hauled carriages got swapped and changed far more often and quickly.

Theoretical plan to tell how busy a train will be

If you could get a data feed of the loadings measured from onboard sensors then it would be possible.

    North-South rolling stock debate

And yet, despite age, I would prefer to use any of those over a Pacer.

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

I have completely changed my stance on this. I realise that as an enthusiast my view was biased. But peoples lives are more valuable than getting to experience a class 37.

Sadiq Kahn cancels NB4L/New Routemaster contract with Wrightbus

Clearly not, but it is a good historical comparison to judge progress.

Gospel Oak to Barking Line (GOBLIN) electrification

It's probably a bit rich as I should be thankful for the electrification, but the masts do look incredibly unsightly with the crisscross metal and sharp edges.

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

Starting and shutting down causes more wear and uses far more fuel compared to leaving the engine idling.

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

It is not due to wear and tear, but starting cold. They were designed to only be switched off for maintenance and just be left ticking over when not in use. They don't use much diesel while idling and diesel was very cheap back then. When they start up they burn fuel to warm up because there...

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

As far as I know not much fuel is consumed when a diesel engine is idling. The 37s were designed to never be switched off unless for maintenance.

    Titled trains 2017 UK

Don't some named trains have different catering?

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

The railway uses different traction types when they are required. There are many cases where newer stock has been permanently replaced with older stock.
