CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Hopefully the 150s wont even be part of the TFW fleet in 12 months time!

I think the original plan for the Dec 23 timetable (announced around early 2023) was Pembroke Dock and Swanline would remain as 153 pairs until the 197s on Maesteg/Ebbw Vale etc were able to be replaced by the 231's. I dont think 5 cars on the marches was ever going to be impacted by 197s...

Yes ive noticed a pair of 153s or if available a 158 substitute now on the rare occasions there isnt a 197 available. It is probably easier to use these as 158s are used for Cambrian/North Wales and 153s for HOWL/Crewe local so are easier to swap in and out of diagrams than 150s are now...

Very interesting. I didnt realise the 1531 ex Milford was booked for 3 x 158. Its been a single 158 when ive seen it. 1715114526 Thats a really big change as the 1330 and 1430 have been booked Sprinters for as far back as I remember. Also the 158 at Piccadilly on a Saturday night into...

Thanks for the info. I noticed on RTT that the 158 i saw was swapped for a 3 car 197 for the Cardiff-Manchester part of the journey. Very good indeed when you consider how many Sprinters there used to be even 6 months ago.

I was on 197115 yesterday and noticed 1 missing in standard plus but not the 2nd. Hopefuilly this isnt going to be an issue! I mentioned this in the MK4 thread but might as well ask here as its to do with 197s. Do we know how many diagrams we currently have and how many short we are today of...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

I think the long term plan was for the 19xx arrival from South Wales to still split even when its a 5 car. I think the 2030 is meant to be the only 2 car booked working out of Manchester to South Wales? So the 1930 would be the 3 car set after the split. Anyway, good to hear all 4 diagrams...

My journey to Cardiff today, 1012 to Cardiff Central was 4 cars - 197017/197004. Although about 20 minutes late arriving into Cardiff I must say 4 carriages was most welcome as there was a fairly healthy loading of passengers although nowhere near full with plenty of spare tables and double...

Yes just seen its updated on RTT. Saw a 3 car 197 (wasnt close enough to see number but assume 197118) going empty towards Cardiff direction.

You would hope so. But ive no idea whether a door fault could be sorted that easily or would need a maintenance depot. And if so Canton which is closer or the proper CAF depot. I suppose it depends what type of fault it is.

Thanks. I assume it will need to get back to Chester to repair? Or if its minor can things be done at Canton?

1030 Carmarthen-Manchester cancelled between Carmarthen and Cardiff due to a door fault. Was this supposed to be a 197 and does anyone know which unit has the fault? Thanks. RTT doesnt show which unit (assume something spare at Canton?) is taking over from Cardiff either.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

The 1032 Swansea is definately a MK4. Ive just seen it passing. At least they managed to get this one out today as last Sunday it was a pair of 153s.

It looks like the 0627, 0830, 1230, 1430 and 1630 from Manchester are all 197s today (mostly 3 cars but a 2 car on the 1230) Therefore only the 1030 and 1830 departures are MK4's. In the week these are the 2 that are least likely to be a MK4

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

It looks like the 1830 has been allocated a 3 car and the 1730 a 2 car. The 1630 which should be a MK4 is showing as a 158 Manchester to Cardiff and then a pair of 153s Cardiff-Swansea. There seem to be a few 158s about today, one doing the 15xx Milford to Manchester but swapped for a 197...

Thanks. THat probably explains why it was switched to a Cardiff to Chester service to get back to depot. And yes always a few sprinters on Sunday but today does seem more than usual with 4 consecutive journeys Cardiff to Manchester formed of various combinations of 153s

Anyone know what's happened to 197120? Swapped for a pair of 153s at Cardiff to go onwards to Manchester. Was there a fault with it?

TFW is a brand name though is it not? The franchise covers Wales and Borders and some routes in England, Hereford to Crewe for one, TFW is the only TOC on this route. 1714299883 Interesting. Could explain why so many Sprinters on passenger services covering for 197s today.

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Well they might well be on former 170s routes at the moment but the long term plan is for FLIRTS to appear on these routes. And in any case, even accounting for say 11 x 170s and 27 x 175s there are 46 or so 197s in service so there should be some spare capacity by now. There are also a few...

Which means the first 3 Swansea to Manchester this morning are pairs of 153s!
