My confidence in the railway gods was well placed! Sure enough 37703 was one of the guests at the
ELR Diesel Gala, so yesterday I made the 1-hour trip across the Pennines.

As the train the other way was a Wagon, I sampled the hydraulic to Heywood and back. Then dropping onto Felix the Cat, aka 68031 to Heywood for 37109 through to Rawstenstall. Whoever wrote "101 Uses for a Dead Cat" needs to add number 102: Providing extra load for a Syphon so that there is even more thrash through the tunnel on the ELR!
Back down to Bury the Cat & Syphon were paired up, where they came off with the Tug going on the front and the pair of bombs going on the back. I wasn't desperate to do 60046, but it was a positioning move for the 20s, so I did it to Heywood...

So then it was D8096 + D8107 thrashing their way up to Ramsbottom for 50015 back to Heywood, where finally I got to take my prize: 37703 up to Rawstenatall then back to Ramsbottom, where I ended my day...

A great day - plenty of variety, big crowds and drivers putting on a performance to entertain the cranks. And despite being on the west of the Pennines, the rain stopped and the sun came out!
