Trains are back on Tuesday.can anyone tell me why their are buses, and how long they will be used, i'm hoping to make this journey at the end of this month...thanks.

Trains are back on Tuesday.
There is engineering work this long weekend, then each Sunday in April, the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of the month, and on Sundays at the start of May.
Any upgrade to the speed over it?Great Western Junction replacement is the main worksite, others between Woking and Winchester.
Not sure as it may be a like for like job, but it should at least remove the horrible 30mph TSR on the Up Fast.Any upgrade to the speed over it?
It's a lot longer than you think actually - 2007 was when the last major renewal of Great Western Junction took place. However, the issue always seems to have stemmed from the crossover itself, and being specialised made to order piece of kit, was never the easiest to keep maintained. I believe there may be some plans afoot to eventually redesign the track layout through Basingstoke Station, but like the idea of moving part of the junction and or grade separation to the west oof the station and the through re-opening of Platform 5 / 6, these things have beeb talked about for years. We shall see.The previous renewal of great western Junction( 6 years ago?) seems to have been a bodged job.
It was billed as a speed improvement and whilst it did not increase the very long established Southern Region 85mph up fast & 65mph down fast speeds it improved the speed on & off the Reading line from 15 to 25 mph. A significant gain for container trains to & from Southampton.
But, within I guess a year, a 30 mph temporary speed limit was put on the up fast. This oscillated between 50 & 30 & has been 30mph for at least the last 2 years.
15 non stop up fast 10 car 23m coach trains re accelerating from 30 to 85 & back to 100 mph now each lose 100kwh of energy as a result of this botched work.
That is 1500x 320x 4(years)kWh. Roughly TWO million KWH.
An enormous amount of wasted energy, costing the taxpayer at least thirty million pounds.
These hidden costs are what make our railway so expensive.
What went wrong at Basingstoke’s Great Western Junction 6 or so years ago.?
Was there an internal inquest? Did anyone at NR care?
Shortly after similar work at Weybridge relaying the crossovers to Addlestone also required a tsr of 30 for months & then 50mph for about a year after renewal. The same engineers?
Let’s hope Great Western Junction remains renewed with 25 mph for the Reading line. The cheapskate solution would be to turn the clock back & reduce the speed to 20 or 15 mph.
Farnborough had also some work on the permanent way yesterday, judging by brief observations from the Rail Replacement Coach.Great Western Junction replacement is the main worksite, others between Woking and Winchester.
What specific date are you travelling? If you tell us, it might fit in with the dates in post #2?re my o/p, its still saying replacement buses Basingstoke - Micheldever, is this over running maint, work?

This again lasted lots longer than you think. It was also raised to 70mph after remedial work (if memory serves correctly) prior to being replaced a couple of years ago.Shortly after similar work at Weybridge relaying the crossovers to Addlestone also required a tsr of 30 for months & then 50mph for about a year after renewal.
Even at current NR prices 2 million Kwh is £384kYou might need to check your maths….. and allow for regenerative braking.
29th April...What specific date are you travelling? If you tell us, it might fit in with the dates in post #2?
Nope, there’s a few planned Sunday closures.29th April...
ok, thanks for your reply...Nope, there’s a few planned Sunday closures.
