Points run through this morning meaning certain routes out of use.

Platforms 5/6 are blocked as a result of the points run-through by a leaf blowing/rail cleaning train

Platform 4 is being used as a bay platform by the Huddersfield stopping services to Manchester

How is this allowed to happen. Does it involve a SPAD?
Could have been under a possession and miscommunication, could be a SPAD, could have been a fault with points, could be caused by a multitude of reason.

Train didn’t fit in the platform and as such started ahead of the signal.
How does that cause a points run though?
As surely if beyond signal it had permission to go past the signal in the first place and if that was near points, they should be set accordingly?

The key word is “should”.

Signallers at panels and computer workstations have route setting cards at their workstation telling them:
  • Who needs to be contacted (e.g. nearby level crossing controllers if separate)
  • What signals need reminders fitted
  • What points need moved and set in which positions.
I don’t believe the equivalent exists in mechanical boxes as their are pull plates fitted to the levers.

I’d imagine it would be a mistake made on the part of the signaller if this was an authorised move.

Whoops! that's unfortunate. Let's hope that they are standard components...
Thanks for the info though.
