North East bus plan pledges cheaper fairs and better services

An £800m plan to upgrade bus services in the North East has been unveiled.
The proposals promise cheaper fares, more regular services, environmentally-friendly fleets and tickets allowing passengers seamless travel across bus, Metro, rail, and ferry routes.
They are set to be approved by the North East Joint Transport Committee (NEJTC) on Tuesday and would then be submitted to the government.

Note the BBC doesn't know how to spell " fares" in the title.

I see we're using the definition of "North East" that appears to exclude Teesside...

Because that is the North East Combined Authority’s plan.

The Tees Valley to be transformed by £310m investment, Government announces

The cash will help to finance revolutionary projects across all modes of travel, including rail, road, bus and cycling in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool

The Tees Valley will be transformed by a £310m investment in transport, the Government has announced.

Hundreds of millions of pounds will be used to improve transport in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool over the next five years.

The cash will help to finance revolutionary projects across all modes of travel, including rail, road, bus and cycling.

The aim is to make the region more connected and help local people to access opportunities right across the Tees Valley.

There will be funding for Darlington, Eaglescliffe, Hartlepool, South Bank and Redcar stations, as well as line improvements and gauge clearance to help improve freight connectivity.

Money for bus priority road improvements, bus shelters and zero-emission vehicles and new cycleways will also be made available.

The cash will also help deliver maintenance on the A66, critical for Freeport and Teesworks links, and many other highways schemes.

Further funding for hydrogen and electric vehicles, including Wheels 2 Work electric bikes to help people get to work or training more easily, will benefit, alongside investment in a smart traffic light management system and more.

The plans have been revealed ahead of the Government Spending Review on Wednesday.

I sincerely hope that the money is used to actually improve the infrastructure for buses (and not just a few shelters) to improve journey times and reliability. The last thing we need is another Darlington Localmotion farce where money was used for new roads for motorists and a few tendered routes that now no longer exist.

Not sure where a third Bus Station in Newcastle can go? The amount of listed building in Newcastle and land owned by the Reuben brothers is a big problem
