These are Class 416 2-EPB vehicles. One of them is 65382 from unit 5768, the other is one of 65379 from unit 5765, 65304 from 5705, or 65302 from 5703. The vehicles were until recently stored at MOD Bicester. Can someone please enlighten what the (apparently) old Southern electric unit, in overall blue, is, in a siding north of Stoke-on-Trent, along with a couple of current diesels.
Or even formerly.Could it be 6307 formally from the Coventry Railway Museum?
The question is what is these EPB vehicles' destiny? These are Class 416 2-EPB vehicles. One of them is 65382 from unit 5768, the other is one of 65379 from unit 5765, 65304 from 5705, or 65302 from 5703. The vehicles were until recently stored at MOD Bicester.
Also on site are one vehicle each from 158763 and 159102 (both damaged beyond repair in the Salisbury Tunnel accident in 2021), as well as what's left of 43300 (damaged beyond repair in the Neville Hill shunting accident in 2019). Think there's also an ex-Island Line 483 there too, possibly 483009?
Ah, possibly the ex-Tyneside EPB's. Weren't they at Coventry and painted once in Newcastle United colours? These are Class 416 2-EPB vehicles. Not either of the pair that were in Coventry, they're both now at different locations in Kent.Ah, possibly the ex-Tyneside EPB's. Weren't they at Coventry and painted once in Newcastle United colours?
Yes, be good if they had a future as they are themselves quite unique
Were they? Scrap them! Burn them!Ah, possibly the ex-Tyneside EPB's. Weren't they at Coventry and painted once in Newcastle United colours?
Any idea what's actually happening with those EPBs? Have they found a new home? Not either of the pair that were in Coventry, they're both now at different locations in Kent.
This unit along with another 2 EPB was stored at MOD Bicester, and prior to that at the former Finmere station. Before storage there they were stored for a short time at Selhurst, after withdrawal from use as Sandite units, so will have been two of the last EPBs to run under their own power. I think they weren't withdrawn from departmental use until the early 2000s. These two units are formed with a pair of Driving Motors instead of the usual combination of Driving Motor+Driving Trailer.
Get their Saudi owners to pay for their restoration then, seeing that they are an important part of Newcastle's historyAh, possibly the ex-Tyneside EPB's. Weren't they at Coventry and painted once in Newcastle United colours?
