South Pennine have started to use their brand new BYD ADL Enviro 200 MMC EV buses on Sheffield Connect services SC1 & SC2. SC1 is the current SC service increased to every 7/8 minutes whilst SC2 will serve the Millsands area on a 20 minute frequency.

The Enviro 200 EV’s are in a 2 tone green livery with similar colours on the interior. The 4 of them are on LF24 plates. With these being introduced there are new charging points have been installed across from B Platform at Sheffield Interchange. These are the first electric buses in South Yorkshire.

According to Travel South Yorkshire website & TM Travel website South Pennine will take over service 117 from Rotherham to Bramley from 15th April with no changes to fare & frequency.

After these brand new vehicles having only been in service a week, two have been broken into with one of them having been stolen and driven into other vehicles and is therefore badly damaged

The source of this info is this tweet, which is only in image form but basically says what I’ve just said above, with the police looking into the incident

It was 3 bus spotters from Sheffield that nicked it, went on a 56 mile joyride including crashing into a fence in Killamarsh then returned the damaged bus to Shef Interchange. How kind of them to return it(!)

Have South Pennine got enough spare vehicles in the fleet to cover while this is off the road being repaired? Apparently considering how new it is it will have to go back to ADL to be repaired.

Any idea of what will be used on SC1/SC2 while this off the road? Does it have to be a certain type of vehicle or can anything in South Pennine's fleet be used?

I wonder if the wisdom of leaving the buses out in the bus station overnight to charge with little security may be reviewed by SYMCA?!

At least all buses these days seem to have CCTV so unless you're covered from head to toe they should get good footage of the culprits.

After they have been charged up it would make sense for them to go to the depot at Brightside rather than leave them in the Interchange all night.
