Making use of an opportunity to visit a fairly new station, and I believe for our first time, we next board the 1738 Southeastern service 2R54 to Thanet Parkway, arriving there at 1936 on Wednesday evening.

We next board the 1952 Southeastern service to Margate that arrives there at 2007 on Wednesday evening.

We take the twelve minute/0.5 mile walk to Cecil Street Council Offices, where we board the 2030 Stagecoach South East Loop service to Ramsgate Harbour, arriving there at 2100 on Wednesday evening.

With only the Thanet Loop available at this time of night we take the following 21.16 service alighting at Ramsgate Railway Station at 21.24 on Wednesday.

We enter the station and board the 2207 Southeastern service 1L73 to Folkestone West, arriving there at 2300 on Wednesday evening.

We next board the 2313 Southeastern service to Westenhanger that arrives there at 2321 on Wednesday evening.

Having passed through Westenhanger on Tuesday, I can confirm it is absolutely not the place to be this late in the evening as there is absolutely nothing there, so we head to somewhere with far better connections as we board the 2329 Southeastern service 2R72 to Dover Priory, arriving there at 2352 on Wednesday evening.

We continue with the 0013 Southeastern service to Sandwich arriving at 0037 on Thursday morning.

Having passed through Westenhanger on Tuesday, I can confirm it is absolutely not the place to be this late in the evening as there is absolutely nothing there,

Oh dear, has the castle been razed to the ground....

Perhaps it might be a good idea for you to suggest to Southeastern to remove that particular late mid-week timetabled stop at Westenhanger railway station, letting them be aware of your concern.

Time for an overnight break then from the nearby St. Georges Road bus stop we take the 06.56 Stagecoach South East service 43 to Canterbury Bus Station arriving at 07.56 on Thursday.

We walk for 9 minutes (0.4 mile) to Canterbury East Station and catch the 0813 Southeastern service to  Snowdown arriving at 0827 on Thursday morning.

Apart from a couple of school buses the only bus service here is the Stagecoach Connect DRT so we stay with the trains and take the 09.03 Southeastern service to Faversham arriving at 09.33 on Thursday.

We then can hop on the 1000 South Eastern train service to London St Pancras, arriving there 1110 (Thursday).

We head next door to Kings Cross and take the 11.27 Grand Central service to Sunderland arriving at 14.49 on Thursday.

We can then take the 1459 Tyne and Wear Metro to Newcastle Airport, arriving 1555 (Thursday).

We next take the 16.41 Arriva Northumbria service 777 to Morpeth Bus Station arriving at 17.21 on Thursday.

We next board the 17:48 Green Mountain Travel service 436 to St Marys Whitehouse Farm Centre, arriving there at 18:20 on Thursday evening.

We appear to be more than half a mile from any other bus stop, so as this service is only servied by the aforementioned Green Mountain 436, we board the final departure of the day at 1823 (less than 5 minutes connection, but the chances of this not being the same vehicle are minimal!). We alight at Stannington Station (railway crossing) at 1851 on Thursday.

Unfortunately we were oblivious (until it was too late) to the fact that the station closed 66 years ago.

And that appears to be it for the night being just out of range of any other bus route so we return for the first eastbound bus in the morning at 08.02 alighting at Morpeth Railway Station at 08.16 on Friday.

With respect, a really pedantic comment. Whilst the castle is no doubt a local treasure, I was referring simply to the fact that at that time of the day (2320 on Wednesday evening), the station is not somewhere we'd wish to be at during that time, as it is in a fairly remote location, and I know you know exactly what I'm referring to.
