0-0 FT at the Hawthorns.

Could easily have won - this has been a feature of our games recently :(

To take a squad, in my opinion, that should be challenging for European football to the brink of relegation is quite an achievement and I wouldn't want him to do that to my club!
In a way Aston Villa have the look of the Newcastle side that were relegated in 2009, a squad of "supposedly" very good players facing the chance of relegation.

Full time:

Wigan 4 - 0 Newcastle
Everton 4 - 0 Fulham
Swansea 4 - 4 Wolves
West Brom 0 - 0 Villa
Sunderland 2 - 2 Bolton
Stoke 1 - 1 Arsenal

22 goals from 6 games, not bad.

Hardly the same team though. Off the top of my head we've lost since Saint O Neill left:

Freidel
Downing
A Young
L Young
Milner
Barry

Hopefully, whether or not you are in the Premiership next year, Mr Lerner will give Mr Mcleish the boot.

I'd be tempted to sack him now and let McDonald have the last two games although the threat there is that the team collapses.

Lerner needs to put up the cash (he's still not as bad as deadly Doug) but first McLeish must go or else we'll waste that money on defensive players.

I have to admit it's depressing having to talk about spending megabucks to simply tread water because of a few clubs spoil it for everyone by artificially inflating the market.

Thoughts with the Kidderminster player airlifted out of Aggborough at Kidderminster v Mansfield today, following serious head and neck injuries sustained. Crowd asked to leave and game finished early, meaning that Kidderminster missed out on the play-offs (though odds were against them even if they finished).

Hope he gets well soon though :(
To be fair Kiddie were unlikely to score 3 or 4 in injury time

When was the last time Everton scored 4 goals in 3 consecutive matches?
Who was the last team to score 4 in 3 consecutive matches?

Norwich 0 - Liverpool 3, If Liverpool get another they will be the 5th premiership team to net 4 goals today!

Come on, Wednesday!

In the Championship, Southampton confirmed automatic promotion, with a no-nonsense 4-0 win over relegated Coventry, whilst West Ham won 2-1 at home to Hull.
The Hammers take on Cardiff in the play-offs, with the other tie being between Birmingham and Blackpool.

Some interesting twists in League Two, with Crawley suffering a "shock" 3-0 home defeat to struggling Hereford and Torquay drawing home to Crewe resulting in Southend being one point behind both in the race for the final automatic slot after winning 2-0 at Oxford. Crawley have been doing badly of late and may well fail against Accrington, while Torquay go to Hereford buoyed after their heroic performance today and with everything to play for, so it isn't out of the question for neither to win - and should that be the case, Southend's home game against doomed Macclesfield will be massive! Indeed, should Crawley and Torquay both lose, Southend will need just a draw on account of their superior Goal Difference. Further, during the last four games Southend have picked up 10 points (the division's joint best with Shrewsbury), whereas the other two have won just one between them in that time.

They might be a point down but Southend are favourites in my book!

Early in the season, readers of The Guardian supposedly voted Southend as favourites for the title. They may not have been right on that account - but 3rd wouldn't be far off. Go get 'em! <D

Oh, and if it doesn't happen - I would fancy them in the Play-Offs.

When was the last time Everton scored 4 goals in 3 consecutive matches?

Don't know and don't care particularly much - but to say I'm happy is an understatement :p

The Hammers take on Cardiff in the play-offs

Come on Cardiff! Every year is the same - you fall short right at the death. This time, I know you can do it :p

...and if they do slip up again, I'll be hoping Blackpool return to the Prem. But come on Cardiff!

I hear that congratulations are in order for Southampton, or "The Saints" as I believe they are popularly known.

What I find strange is how teams such as Norwich and Southampton gain successive promotions from the third tier to the Premiership, whilst established clubs such as Leeds, Derby, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City remain marooned in the Championship.:p

Norwich and Southampton have shown how dropping down, entering administration and rebuilding from scratch can be successfully done.
Portsmouth take note..(if you survive liquidation that is, administrators have given 1-2months max before liquidation becomes only option)

Well when was the last time Aston Villa won a trophy ? or Newcastle come to that.

Strip out Ferguson, Wenger, Dalglish, Redknapp, O'Neill and Mancini and Mcleish is the only current Premiership Manager to have won an English Domestic Trophy.

Everyone raves about Redknapp but he has only ever won the FA Cup with Portsmouth and got Southampton relegated. This may put things into perspective.

So you want to strip out one third of the managers first! Oh and Paul Lambert won League One championship in 2010, Alan Pardew won the football league trophy with southampton in 2010,
Both of which are classed as domestic trophys!

Just sick of them moaning about Mcleish all the time as if there are lots of other Trophy Laden Managers who can't wait to get the job. There are very few current Premiership Managers who have won any great amount of English Trophies - take out Ferguson Dalglish and Wenger and theres not a lot left.

David Moyes for example is hailed as a great Manager but has won SFA

WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO The Villa won 0-0 WHOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO
The master tactician once again outfoxed the opposition with 7 out of 10 outfield players being defensively minded. A classic display of vibrant fast paced football ensued and we bravely swept aside the mighty WBA

Its going to be a terrible terrible day on Sunday May 13th when we will get to see the last game in the PL ever managed by the genius that is mcleish. He is truly one of the greats of football management.

If he does get sacked/leaves who would you realistically like to replace him -ie someone who is likely to come ?

Is Gordon Strachan employed nowadays?

As a club that hires terrible ex-Old Firm managers, he seems the logical successor

I don't care one bit who comes. Whoever it is will be a step up. mcleish is now a dead man walking. In fact there were strong rumours that he would have gone tonight had we lost the game. If you are asking me who I would like then I would say Martinez. But that would mean a complete culture change with regards to how we play. It would be a long process but, I believe, one that would be worth it
