I tend to travel from Stockport more than anywhere else and was amused this week when an elderly passenger was redirected from Platform 2 to Platform 0; the old guy didn't quite believe what he was being told. But do any other stations have a Platform 0?

On another issue, the station has a Ladies-only waiting room because it gives direct access to the Ladies toilet. Fair enough. But, wait a minute, it's also the Baby Changing room! As a guy with baby grandchildren who's not averse to nappy changing, what would I do here if I had a baby? (Intriguingly, the pictogram on the sign appears to show a MAN changing the baby next to the traditional sign for "Ladies" with a figure wearing a splayed skirt.)

Haymarket is the first to come to mind, however I know there's more. I can recall in recent years reading proposals for more bay platforms to the east of Manchester Piccadilly's existing bays. Their numbers? -1 and 0!

Cardiff Central , Kings Cross.

Stockport is special after all , it wasnt connected up for a good few years due to "signalling issues" - lets not go there.

Man Picc already has a platform 0, however its rarely open to the public as theres stuff back there you dont want the general public going near, whenever its used theres staff manually ushering people.

I know someone who nearly missed her connection at Stockport because of platform "0"

She was travelling from the Mid-Cheshire line to Sheffield, and seeing "0" on the indicator thought it meant that the platform had not yet been allocated. So she waited on platform 4 for the platform to come up, and at the last minute had a mad dash through the subway!

Perhaps an understandable error to make, and, needless to say, one for which I received severe earache later for not having warned her!

Just a shame there's now wire fencing on the platform edge at Platform 0 at Piccadilly now and it's only ever used for stabling.

Would be nice to see some additional platforms there though, but I fear we're getting close to the limit of track capacity at Piccadilly rather than platform capacity, especially when the Cord opens, although when that happens it frees up paths on the fast lines, so we might run out of platform space again.

Still I'm sure the only people reading what I'm typing here are fully aware of what I believe will be needed soon at Piccadilly, so I'll stop typing... now.

King's Cross and Cardiff Central are perhaps the best-known examples.

I know that Clapham Junction is to be renumbered sometime soon, bumping all the numbers across by one so that platform 1 (disused) becomes platform 0 (disused).

King's Cross shows how to do this unambiguously:

Is this one you describe something similar to the east-facing terminal bay platform 17 at Manchester Victoria station, which had brick walls and small openings separating it from platform 16 and it appeared to have a Royal Mail connection of sorts, where if you were seen to be "looking in" by a supervisor , you were always asked to move away ?

I thank you :D . It was a convenience at the time, as it saved explaining which side of the station the new platforms would be. All later reports showed them as A and B. The scheme will probably be resurected but for the HS2.1 temporary terminus (and quite a bit longer than previously shown).

You don't mean the very short Engine Siding next to the relay room do you? The track isn't actually adjacent to the platform structure and the only kit normally there is cast crossings and half sets of switches.
