Bearing in mind the last point, it may be that the set includes a DVT (all l/h passenger trains need a brake vehicle/guards accomodation) but the loco runs round at Hull (if possible). Seems uneconomical to be dragging a dead loco on the rear which would also impede timekeeping.

This could be a possibility as run around is possible at Hull.

railway rumours hey, do you just love em

No No and No again

No hst and No 67, so there you go

222103 may be back in service, earliest estimate is 9 weeks upto 12 months, take your pick  the latest one Ive heard that two new body shells are being built in Bruge then will be shipped over here for the existing parts to be fitted, I state I do not know if this is true, but it seems the most sensible thing anyone as mentioned yet, as Im pretty sure the insurance companies will want it put right at the least possible cost

Who's the source for that then? I can't believe Hull Trains aren't trying to find a short term replacement, as if 1 of their trains fails at the moment they will have to cancel 25% of their services for the day - not good for passengers! And I can't see how they are going to cope like that for potentially up to 12 months!

How does that person get their info? We know that Hull Trains have been looking at many options with their insurers, so how does this guy know that they have abandoned their plans?

EDIT:

It is rumoured that this morning staff at Wembly depot were getting ready a small set of MK3 coaches with DVT to be used by Hull Trains combined with the hiring of class 67's from EWS in lieu of the damaged voyager. It is annoying that they will not be using class 90s for this service as far as Donny with the 67's taking over thereafter particularly as our friends at EWS continue to have a love and hate affair with the 90 Fleet i.e. placing them in store (lastest figure is 14). This would have been a good opportunity to give the fleet some well earned work, but as usual EWS can not be bothered

HD is a Hull Trains driver ... and owner of Railchat

Yes but when were his facts last updated? I'm sure that that particular post was made a good while back on another forum!

As Tom said, HD is a Hull Trains driver so I'll take his word for it over any other's as he is directly involved with the company.
Of course, if locos were to be used, HD would be the first to know, as he is a driver and not rumour-mongering.

By the way Max, look at your quote, "it has been rumoured" says it all really.

How would he know? He drives 222s, not 67s, and therefore drivers would probably be hired in to cover these services. Also, does he work for the rolling stock owners, or EWS, or Hull Trains management?

Anyway, as I said, these may be rumours but they are far more up to date than what your source has quoted. We know that an Mk3 set is being prepared, and what else would it be for? Don't be so quick to trust sources that aren't neccessarily as reliable as they appear!

Max, have a look at this:

67029 is hard wired to work with 82146 so any stock put between the two would have to be wired similarly.
There is no room to put a TDM unit in a 67 (as far as I know)
Although 67s are fitted with TDM jumpers this was only for working with with PCVs (propelling control vehicles) via PACS (propelling advisory control system) which were the vans with cabs as seen on mail trains a few years ago.

There are at the moment there are only 3 vehicles with the adequete through-wiring:

SLEP 10546, RBF(M) 10211 and FO 11039.
All part of the EWS Executive train.

As I have said, unless someone is willing to foot the bill for modifying said stock then I don't think it's going to go ahead.
But if anyone knows otherwise then feel free to correct me with adequete sources.

Quote for today from Hull Trains website:

Hull Trains said:
14th February - 25th March
Wednesday 14th February 2007: Service Cancellations
Following an incident late last night involving trespassers on the line at Doncaster, the following services will not run today

12.45 Hull to London King's Cross (tickets will be valid on connecting Northern and GNER services)

13.33 London Kings Cross to Hull (tickets will be valid on connecting GNER and Northern services)

17.06 Hull to London Kings Cross (tickets will be valid on connecting Northern and GNER services)

20.27 London Kings Cross to Hull (tickets will be valid on connecting Northern and GNER services)

We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause to your journey.

Does this mean that a second 222 has been out of action today?

EDIT: Contacted customer relations, and they have said that another unit has been damaged as a result of this fatality. She said that they were "really struggling at the moment".

Possibly.
They can manage on 3 units but when one is taken down they struggle on 2, which is mainly why they ordered 4 units so they had one spare. Unfortunatly due to 103 being assigned to the F/UKT pool then the rest is history.

I'm going to sit back and see what happens in any case.. if they somehow manage to use 67s and stock then I'll eat my hat (if I can find it).

I have just spoken to Taylorsyms of Beverley who are Hull Trains' public relations consultants, and they have told me that as yet there is "no official word on a solution", and that having been in touch with Hull Trains today "no solution has yet been finalised".

She said that a solution is being sought "quickly but with the care needed to find the right solution for both them and their passengers". She also said that something will be determined in the near future, and several options are being looked at :)

Really, it shows the inefficiency of the privatised railways when the most sensible option of a HST couldn't be used, since there are none free, but GNER will soon be taking on extra HSTs to run entirely under the wires to Leeds. At the same time, plenty of 110mph electric locos (87s and 90s) and Mk3s which would be far better suited to these services are sitting in store, with a lot likely to be exported.

Well 43101, 43103, 43121, 43122 are off lease working power cars, all they need is the stock and they have a working train for Hull Trains.

You inspected them then ?!

Why do you think they haven't been taken by any operator?!

Didn't think 43101 had an engine in it according to the man who knows these sorts of things!

And 43121 is in use at Wabtec with 43157 for testing of stock being refurbished for GNER.

Would a Turbostar not suffice in the mean time? Most Hull Trains drivers should be still signed for them, if not need a Refresher course. Or better yet an MML 222?

It could be used as a Spare for example if something happens with another 222 e.g. Accident or Maintenance Work Required the 170 or MML 222 could fill the service. At least until the 67 + Mk3 + DVT is sorted out...

The usual problem...availability of a 170!

There are none spare, the DfT have said 'no' to an open access operator using a train which has been paid for by the taxpayer and Bombardier are not building any more until the trials with a new more environmentally friendly engine have been successfully completed.

Then the fact that loadings have increased so a 3-car 170 would be totally unsuitable, no kitchen, 100mph top speed...etc etc

As for the 222s, MML wouldn't release one.

What happened the MML HST to Virgin and 220/221 to Hull Trains idea?

Its been put on the back burner for the moment...
...and now an idea that may be revived given recent unfortunate events.

WB64 is set for a return to service on the West Coast which scuppers Hull Trains' plans.

Too expensive. Hire was rumoured to have been in excess of £10k/week.

That's not particularly expensive - hire a rake of stock for a charter (with no loco or other charter costs) and you're talking a few hundred quid per coach, well into four figures for a rake. And that's just for a day.
