A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
Newport (closed in 1915) and stated on the preamble, is the final station on this journey.

As stated previously, I will be using journeys with CLOSED stations at both the start and the end, for the next series of journeys.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

We now move to Wales for the next journey...

This quiz is number 80 so far....

Once again, CLOSED stations feature at the start and finish of this journey.

The journey starts at the CLOSED station of Benllech and Red Wharf Bay
It follows the line of the Red Wharf Bay branch line
It then follows the line of the Anglesey Central Railway
It then follows the line of the Chester and Holyhead Railway
It then follows the line of the Chester and Crewe Railway
It then follows the line of the Whitchurch and Tattenhall Railway
It then follows the line of the Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway
It then follows the line of the Oswestry and Newtown Railway
It then follows the line of the Mid-Wales Railway
It then follows the line of the Brecon and Merthyr Junction Railway
It then follows the line of the Rhymney Railway
The journey ends at the CLOSED station of Cefn Onn Halt

The first closed station on this journey is Benllech and Red Wharf Bay

This quiz is so informative - I never realised there was a station called Britannia Bridge.

Opened just to the east was Menai Bridge

I've sent you a PM regarding the above

Talacre

I have already posted Talacre in the posting prior to this one.

With regard to Foryd, this was opened in 1858 and was extended in 1885 to serve the sites in the Kinmel Bay area that had been steadily growing, but it was decided by the LNWR not to rename this station as Kinmel Bay Halt as originally proposed, but to again retain the name of Foryd.

Matters moved on in the 20th century after the First World War, but I am notified that Foryd was ALWAYS the name used in the published railway timetables.

Thank you - that's interesting.

the double m was a typo - and yes it looks as though Foryd was the 'official' name. Blame wiki.
