They not really "modern" per-say, but when I was a kid, the Class 416 (and similar looking units) used to scare me somewhat!

The front end always reminded me of skulls (and funny bones - although they didn't scare me)

More modern, I'd have to mention the class 460

Class 70 by far the ugliest thing around. 142 I actually don't mind looking at, travelling in the thing is another matter.

London Overground 172s or 150/1s for me. 315s I don't know if I love or hate so will update when I make up my mind

My vote is with the 153. Mainly down to the assymetrical ends and the "new" vehicle end has a cab which protrudes into the vestibules.

Class 458

I have to agree with Class 458 and they do noy travel well along the Waterloo - Reading line either. I will be glad when they are rebuilt to include the Class 460 coaches to be 458/5's as I believe that they are then going to be going on to the Windsor & Eaton to Waterloo line, which will mean hopefully on the Waterloo - Reading line we get the 450's from that route.

The 456, 458 and 175 get my negative vote

Turning it round.... the 185 is a fine looking unit

Apparently they're set to get a 450 style front gangway which should make them look a bit less nasty

Mmmmmm........that may improve their appearance, but I don't think it will improve their ride....;)

I'd say a Class 70
This attachment is not British, it's Belgian but it's certainly the ugliest train I've ever seen! Looks like an unfortunate accident between a train and a rubber ring......

That new Thameslink thing looks like a creature from the lost world from the photos what I seen off it.

I didn't think that the Class 700 thameslink trains would be any different to the class 380's?

Nope they'll look quite different:

The 380s are a test bed for some stuff that will be carried over to the Desiro City but they're not directly sharing a body shell (though I'm sure there'll still be some common bits to it).

Not at all, many trains can look good with a through connection. 158/159 and the new 172's spring instantly to mind.
What do you think of the Danish ones with a rubber dinghy on the front?

Class 70 seems to be everyone's pet dislike. How did they end up looking like that?

The Vossloh update of the class 67 looks like an ugly beast though none have been ordered yet. It is a tarting-up attempt gone wrong.

323s. They look to me as if someone left the plastic protector from the packaging on the front. Also I'm not keen on the protruding coupling on 333s.
