This would never have happened if Mick Mcarthy had not been sacked.

Wolves' only error was not replacing McCarthy with the right man. He's not a Premier League quality manager by far. I genuinely believe if Wolves had got a decent man in they'd either have gone up or be in the play offs by now, or dare I even suggest never relegated in the first place. McCarthy did the initial damage that turned into an avalanche this season.

Watford went up in 99 from 6th place. It's very possible. Just out of interest, why do you want Pearson sacked?

There's no way we would survive with our current form 3 wins since the start of feb and we should have done better with the amount of money we've had!

You forget to mention he got them promoted from The Championship in the first place

That he did, still doesn't mean he was of a good enough quality to manage at PL level! Getting there is one thing, actually being any good is another. He should have gone a long time ago.

Wigan have to play Arsenal but so do Newcastle. Villa have to play Chelsea and Sunderland have to play Tottenham. Norwich who have an extra point over those teams have to play Man City.

If Wigan are able to gain points on Saturday and in their game in hand on Tuesday (away to West Brom, then home to Swansea) then it could lead to a very interesting conclusion to the season. Especially considering they play Villa on the final day of the season.

If they do badly in both those games then they could be all but relegated by next Tuesday.

By playing around with the BBC Predictor you can easily see how four, five or maybe six teams could take that last relegation spot without too much out of the ordinary happening.

Had a bit play with that predictor myself, if my predictions are close, then Newcastle are down

Had a look on www.footballwebpages.co.uk, they predict the final to be

C Manchester United 38 28 5 5 82 38 +44 89
2 Manchester City 38 23 10 5 67 32 +35 79
3 Chelsea 38 22 9 7 73 36 +37 75
4 Arsenal 38 21 10 7 71 36 +35 73
5 Tottenham Hotspur 38 20 9 9 64 46 +18 69
6 Everton 38 16 15 7 54 39 +15 63
7 Liverpool 38 15 14 9 70 43 +27 59
8 West Bromwich Albion 38 14 7 17 49 51 -2 49
9 Swansea City 38 11 14 13 46 47 -1 47
10 West Ham United 38 12 10 16 43 51 -8 46
11 Southampton 38 10 12 16 48 59 -11 42
12 Stoke City 38 9 15 14 33 44 -11 42
13 Fulham 38 10 11 17 47 60 -13 41
14 Sunderland 38 10 11 17 41 54 -13 41
15 Aston Villa 38 10 11 17 46 68 -22 41
16 Norwich City 38 9 14 15 35 59 -24 41
17 Wigan Athletic 38 10 9 19 45 69 -24 39
R Newcastle United 38 10 9 19 44 68 -24 39
R Reading 38 6 11 21 42 70 -28 29
R Queens Park Rangers 38 4 14 20 30 60 -30 26

Again, Newcastle go down, most predictions i have seen have newcastle, some on GD and some, like footballwebpages, have Newcastle as Wigan is predicted to score 1 more goal than Newcastle

Indeed. Although I don't think they should have sacked him once it was obvious relegation was coming because he is a decent Championship manager and IMO he'd have kept them in the Championship.

My predictions on BBC predictor had Newcastle and Norwich 17th and 18th, split by Goal Difference. I didnt decide on exact scores but just put 2-0 or 1-1 or 0-2 for each game to whom I think will win.

As a lifelong Wolves fan, having been through thin and thinner these last 2 years, I quite agree.

Also he was the first Wolves Manager in over 30 years to keep them in The Premiership for successive seasons , he also won promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland.

Everyone is avoiding the elephant in the room - namely what happened last summer to the £23 Million they got for the sales of two of their best players :p

Wouldn't surprise me if it went into the stand.

Also apologies for my 6,000th post not being a masterpiece about the Villa, how about the classic badge as an apology?

It certainly wasn't spent on players - let's hope your badge makes Swansea hit the net a few times tonight. :p

Wigan are 1-0 up at half time, SS4 I would say Villa are safe though just by the 5 teams between them.
Not looking good for Newcastle at the moment

Well Arsenal are in a charitable mood (and have been for about eight years ) and will end the campaign on a whimper by losing to Newcastle on the last day of the season, therefore finishing outside the top four for the first time in 17 years and allowing Newcastle to finish just outside the relegation zone.

Trouble is we're facing Chelsea next. Most other clubs I feel we could beat but it'll take a Herculean effort to get something from them (figuratively speaking since we're at home) and I'm worried about the psychological effect from the reverse fixture.

I'd rather not have to rely on other teams

Yay Swansea. Get a third please

Full Time and a very good result for half the bottom half of the table (if that makes sense)

Goal Abertawe 3-2:p

Wigan down to ten men !!!

90 + 8 WTF !!!

9 minutes were added on as Vorm had to be stretchered off after what sounded to be a very nasty clash of heads. During the stoppage, Wigan brought on Ronnie Stam in place of Emmerson Boyce, but he lasted all of 2 minutes before he had to go off injured as well! Oh, Stam was Wigan's 3rd and final sub ....

Fergie time

Injury to Vorm and a Swansea defender after they collided. Also I'm saying nothing until we're mathematically safe

edit: quite a serious one too, required two stretchers

Meanwhile, over in Scotland, it is said that all the Scottish Premier League clubs have now voted unanimously for a bettered package of measures including a play-off with the 11th position Premiership club in a play-off pool with the three clubs finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th position in the First Division.

Am I right in thinking that a 12-10-10-10 league structure is the one that was finally agreed as the basis of the Scottish leagues for next season.

Aston Villa have spent over 100 seasons in the top tier of English Football - a record only bettered by Everton (believe it or not :o).

That tally will be added to next year :p

Wigan losing has guaranteed West ham and swanseas place next year in the premier league mathematically. We might as well say stoke are safe as well as 6 points clear with a massively superior goal difference.
To think a few weeks ago we were saying here stoke were doomed. Villa need only 2 points for safety now
