Been on there for 3 days. Been meaning to post it but forgot. Too far South for me to consider.

Do Southern rail accept applications from people willing to relocate. I've applied previously, about 2 years ago and I was told I had to be living within 30mins of the depot at time of application.

They had a quick turn around with the applications only a week to get it done!

Has anyone heard anything yet?

Does anyone know how frequently trainee train driver jobs come up for Barnham depot?

I am very keen to apply for such a position should one arise!

I applied in May and am still waiting to go to assessments. They've fulfilled their quota of drivers for this year so it won't be until the new yr at the earliest I expect.

Thanks for the reply hockers193.

What happened after you applied in May? Did you just have to fill out an application form and are now awaiting assessment?

After I filled in the very comprehensive App form I waited for what seemed like ages! It appears as though there were quite a few applications for the posts that the guys in HR had to wade through!
Anyway, I got an email telling me I'd made it through the paper sift and to expect an email in Oct inviting me to assessments. Still waiting on that one.

I got the same email regarding being contacted in October- still waiting.
And I would be relocating if I was successful (mentioned in my initial app)

No, still no news. I'll give it a few more days and then email them before the end of the week I think.

Could be a while. Barnham and Eastbourne are were on train staff go to die. ;), so demand is high. Even staff transfers take months, if not years to go through. You could try Redhill or Horsham and move depots later on.
Some conductor jobs coming up very very soon as well.

There always have been certain depots, even in BR days, that were regarded as retirement depots, ie: you moved there as it was your last move before you retired, even if you still had another 10 - 15 years to go!
And both Barnham and Eastbourne come in that category.

Last I heard two internals or was it three snapped up the few jobs so guards have a good chance but a huge depot... Very very desirable depot even if your a guard doesn't always work out I know one who moved to westbury to get a driving job

Eastbourne, absolutely. Barnham, it seems, is now ever-so-slightly less so, from what I can see, especially from a conductors' perspective but also drivers - they've had several new "off the street" conductors join recently, for example, and there is I suppose always potential for them to move to driving as soon as they can. My gut feeling is that Redhill is going down the "retirement depot" route sooner or later, though.
