The link above certainly suggests this. Of more interest to me is will mods and refresh start streight away?

I think we can assume that is a yes. Southern are desperate for extra stock on the Uckfield line, partly to lengthen the existing services and partly to allow for unit failures. So they'll want them in service ASAP I suspect.

Apart from the essential compatibility modifications do you think Southern will initially bother with changing the livery both inside and out in order to get them into service quicker?

Well, they're on the move anyway. At Edinburgh according to RTT. Anyone know yet if it's all four?

Interesting that it's started running just late enough to cancel out the planned looping at Heaton and Ferryhill?

IIRC its 12 vehicles, unless there is a Pacer in the formation - i which case its 8.
Class 153s also count as two cars.

Not sure on the turbo's, I have seen 8 before, but as the sprinters can do 12 I can't see why the turbos can't. It is number of cabs on the sprinter that is the issue.

The sprinter rule applies to 170s, however so does the 158/159 rule about the middle carriages counting as a cab (can't remember why of the top of my head)

The middle carriages count as cabs because they still have engine control gear and the like linked to the same circuit as the cab stuff.

421 is one of the two involved that I need a photo of; do we have any idea when the other pair will be moving?

Flat batteries on the other two units cited as cause of delay and reason only the pair moving today. Someone left the lights on them for the last few days?!

The moment the engine starts the batteries recharge...unless it's the starter batteries that have gone ha ha.

Southern units recharge batteries when you restart the engines, unless the starter motors are dead!

That looks outlandishly bizarre at Willesden Junction!

Won't be long before I have to update my DMU requirements list on my phone, which I'll be doing once they get converted to 171s. It'll be nice to see my count on 170s come down but not seeing my 171 count go up!

Definitely going to be on the Uckfield line a lot on my next DaySave then...
