Travelling to Sicily in a couple of weeks, and planning to get around by rail. Is there a site that has timetables, and advance bookings? Any experiences or hints?

Went from Naxos (by Taormina) to Catania and back a few years ago. The train from Messina was about 50 minutes late, then proceeded at no more than 50mph to Catania. Hopelessly late but marvellously chilling for a holiday trip. Very comfortable LHCS with corridor compartment stock. As is usual in Italy, very cheap fares.

Did the Messina to Roma sleeper yesterday.

Awful avoid.

1st class you got a pillow, a sheet and a carton of pineapple juice.

No towels, no toiletries, no running water. Rough fast journey with harsh breaking so very little sleep.

Plus point nice Craft Beer shop in Messina.

Having been to Sicily 7 times. Just rent a car. A week can be had for less than £50. Most of the best sights simply cannot be seen by train
