Does anyone know when the last time the entire West Coast Main Line was closed? Has that ever happened?

I can remember in 94 they ran a skeleton service as far north as Carlisle but from memory no further north but am happy to be corrected on that

Was all of this planned for the same time back then? This possibly has something to do with it as well

No it probably wasn't ,but is there much point in taking all those engineering possessions on Monday anyway if many of the staff involved will be out on strike, or is it mostly contractors doing it and not NR staff ?

Still at ACAS today, no idea if the talks would extend into the weekend, otherwise I would guess that if nothing happens by Friday then it doesn't get resolved before the strike.

I honestly couldn't answer that one.

However there is one good thing - if they close down on Friday from the normal weekday service that at least means all the sets will be in the right place for when services start again on Wednesday morning for a normal weekday service.

I read somewhere NR saying that their people were prepared to negotiate through the weekend. Whether that's just a pressure tactic or sign of a genuine will to negotiate, I'm not sure.

signs are going up at stations about planned strike actuon now - the extent of availavle services looks dismal. I think if action hasn't been called off in another 24 hours I'll make plans to travel on Friday and refund my tickets.

The RMT have also stated they are willing to talk all weekend.

What do you mean, it "will have nothing to do with the strike at all"?

Surely it's entirely down to the strike?

??? The strike starts at 1700 at the VERY earliest, most staff will be at work until 2200, so that's OK for Virgin to Cancel ALL trains from 0600 on Monday >???

OK, to be more precise, all down to the industrial action, which starts at 0001 on the Monday with a work to rule with no overtime. It sounds like quite a few areas rely on regular overtime working.

A notice at our TOC now states if the strike goes ahead there will be major disruption until the end of service on Wednesday 27th aswell with a possibility of no trains before 7am and a very limited service until midday. They are advising people not to travel mon, tue or wed.

It starts with an overtime ban from 0001 Monday, until 2359 Tuesday.

Does anyone know how it is likely to effect the 'Up' Night Riviera on Wednesday Morning? It starts after the Main Strike has ended but still during the overtime ban. FGW's Website doesn't really help.

EDIT

Having asked on Twitter the Sleeper that night/morning will NOT run.

Someone needs to explain that to Northern. A single, A4-sized sign has appeared in the ticket office window at Blackburn station explaining that due to RMT Industrial Action there will be NO TRAINS AT ALL BOTH MONDAY AND TUESDAY.

I queried this with the booking clerk, who just got assy with me. The guard on my train knew nothing about it.

I'm waiting for a phone call or email from Pathfinders to say the Celebration Express charter on Monday has been cancelled. The website is saying nothing.

I spoke to the gateline assistant at my local LOROL managed station, he believes that London Overground and Southern will be fine during the strike, but advised not to travel on Southeastern.

No sleepers on Tuesday (running into Wednesday morning). From FGW's website:

https://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/travel-updates/strike-information said:
Sleeper services will not be able to operate on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.

Cheers,
TLM

Perhaps the same person can suggest you read the comments before yours?

VTEC's plans...

https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.c...day-26-may-2015---nr-rmt-strike-timetable.pdf

Limited service (incl. Edinburgh) on Monday until mid-afternoon.
London to Leeds, York and Newcastle only on Tuesday.

And for Monday:
Monday 25 May 2015

We will be running trains until the early afternoon, with the exception of services in Scotland beyond Edinburgh, where there will be no Virgin Trains East Coast services to and from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Inverness.

Last train northbound

London Kings Cross – Edinburgh -11.30
London Kings Cross – Newcastle -14.00
London Kings Cross – York -14.30
London Kings Cross – Leeds – 14.35
London Kings Cross – Peterborough – 16.33
Last train southbound

Edinburgh - London Kings Cross – 13.30
Edinburgh - York – 14.30
Newcastle - London Kings Cross – 15.00
Leeds - London Kings Cross – 16.15

I'm meant to be heading south at 17:15, really don't want to be rammed into the 16:15 - I know it will be busy. I have a backup plan to get me from London to Guildford if SWT are not running - but that would make my journey at least 10 hours instead of the usual 5-6.

Am I right in thinking that as restrictions are lifted I can just get an early train south on Monday, in time to get the train back to Guildford? I'm going to have to think about this.

I don't know why they couldn't run a full service between harrow and amersham unless NR signals the fasts.

That wouldn't be a "full service", that would be a shuttle- which would need them to get drivers and units in place

I think during the 94 strikes Chiltern were the only part of the network to run a consistent near to normal service

Yes- all trains likely to be very busy, and remember SWT will be shutting down as well

Crewe - Manchester is due to have services operated by Northern and ATW both days - via Styal, which is what happened in 1994 (too many boxes in the Stockport area to try to keep open)
