Yes, passed it at Betchworth this morning - it formed the 0758 Gatwick to Reading. I assume the horrible pink interior has not changed? When I was young I used to see the SR SUBs and EPBs from my window and the transition from BR green to blue - now we have the reverse process underway!

Indeed it did - I managed to take this photograph of it running the earlier 0726 Deepdene to Gatwick Airport just as I walked onto the other platform this morning :D

I have to admit I take back what I said earlier; it looks pretty smart in reality!

Currently on 166204 as the 0741 from Deepdene - it is indeed a very fitting pink, purple and blue inside! Kind of a shame as I reckon they could have done something very nice if they'd timed the interior refurbishment with the new livery. However the more I see the unit the more I like the livery - it's definitely growing on me!

From your photo it looks as if there is no external yellow stripe to denote first class - have FGW let it out when incomplete?

I don't think there was actually, I think you're right - in fact that probably explains why I nearly walked into first class this morning mistaking it for the declassified section at the other end; the doors separating first class were also permanently open and I only clicked when I saw the head-cloths on the seats!

It does. All previous shots that were being used to condemn the livery were of rubbish quality .

If you look at the video I posted from kings Langley, there is a thin silver/grey-looking horizontal line above the first class compartment - which is the one at the rear of the set - though you have to wonder why FGW have now decided to do this when they have always been so good using the yellow stripe until now. The line can also be seen on the video of it at Reading station.

I expect a more obvious bit of marking, like a big number 1, is part of the remaining branding yet to be applied.

Well I hope it does look better in real life, all the photos so far look very dull and unfinished.

Plus all the rolling stock engineers seem to agree that light colours are much better at reflecting the heat away and hence keeping the aircon working well - if we ever see any sun again this summer I expect the reliability to drop quite a bit.

Excellent picture. Thank You. :)

Wonder what is with the single purple coach towards the rear. Looks very good though.

That is the TFRB (Buffet Coach). For some reason they don't get repainted at the same time as the rest of the set. I don't know the reason, but someone in the know will likely pop up and explain why. A look back from the previous repaints a few years back will also reveal this.

Sorry but it's not a TRFB, it clearly has eight full-size windows - I've double-checked looking at the full-size original image and it is a standard TSO. Can only assume it is a hangover from a previous set of coaches to be dealt but was finished late, hence the dynamic lines livery.

It looks to me like the TRFB is in fact behind the catenary mast - you can see the kitchen extractors on the roof - and the tiny bit of the end of coach showing appears to be in green. Remove that purple coach from this formation and you have a set of eight green coaches.

Painting any bit of a 166 in light colours hasn't made a blind bit of difference to the aircon in more than 20 years. What is needed is a reliable system and the leasing company doesn't seem to want to pay for one, unless they are going to have another go at the same time as the 165s get air cooling kit.

Travelled on 166204 this morning on the 0819 from Betchworth to Redhill. There is no yellow stripe to denote first class which is a very retrograde step, as the only identification is now the tiny window stickers which are only visible at close range. The interim blue livery (why did they do that with the green coming so soon after?!) at least had a very bold and good yellow stripe plus a very large '1' on the body side.

The livery isn't finished - there is no branding, and no white window line. When these are added is there not a good chance the yellow stripe and big 1s will be added as well?

is there a pair of power cars out of use hiding in a paint shop to match to that coaching rake?

There is however a silver stripe in the same position at one end, as noticed by someone else earlier in one of the photos.

Yes, but it's so insignificant as to be useless. The whole point of the stripe is that it should be visible from a fair way off - that silver sliver isn't. If further livery details are still to be added, it begs the question of why isn't it all done at once before letting vehicles out into service?

Is this a serious question? Would you rather they cancelled the train/shortformed it just because the final vinyls haven't yet been added?

How much longer does it take to add them while at the repainting shop? Of course I'm not suggesting the unit should sit out of service just for want of further detailing, but simply queried why it isn't all done at the same visit.

Vinyls aren't generally done at the paint shop, they're normally applied at the train's depot by the TOC AFAIK.

No it isn't, look at the picture!
There are 9 mark 3s in the rake, the extra coach is simply hitching a lift back (probably after warranty repairs or some such).

Did anyone manage to find out which set (i.e. which coach no's) they were?

42299,42579,40715 and 41146, all in the new livery including the buffet coach ;), seen at Exeter at 04something or other!
So it is LA15 which should be formed-
41146,40715,42300,42579,42351,42299,42301,44040.

42579 was only converted a few months ago, has anyone got any pictures of it in the 'old' livery?

Abrail has this noted in the coach formations section - on the left hand of the home page, the last keyword is LHCS formations.

Abrail notes that any formation in blue is at Kilmarnock.

LA15 was noted in blue on 15/7/2015.

Now noted in blue [25/7/2015] is set LA62:

LA62 41167 40739 42167 42168 42169 42348 42565 44055.

which suggests it is the next for relivery.

Paint didn't last long on that one then! Has anyone else spotted the still FGW Blue Painted toilet windows on the GWR Green HST Trailers.

How much longer does it take to add them while at the repainting shop? Of course I'm not suggesting the unit should sit out of service just for want of further detailing, but simply queried why it isn't all done at the same visit.

The full final livery details haven't been applied, same as the sleeper coaches and that set of HST trailers, because they are waiting for the full GWR launch event, whenever that is in the next few weeks. It would rather spoil the impact if there were trains out there already in the full get-up.

And 166204 has been put straight back into traffic because the fleet is at full stretch due to one set at a time being away at Wolverton for the refresh/fitting of accessible toilet/repaint programme, while the 166s are also visiting Long Marston one by one for yet another attempt to fix the air con system, taking another set of out circulation every week.

Here's a video of the HST set on the way south yesterday near Lancaster

The new GWR franchise starts September 20th 2015, at 02:00 as stated in an e-mail from FGW. I imagine their website will go live at around the same time, and we'll also start hearing them on the announcement system.
