VTEC just tweeted it was cows. Given the line speed in this area is it another lucky escape?

In these incidents do RAIB report the same as if a train actually was damaged and do they or DEFRA advise how they ended up on line and caused by whom?

The animals in question have now been removed and services should return to normal

Isn't sounding the horn enough to get the cows off the line?

On a train...somewhere!
FHT 1A92 the train involved, the train set back onto the branch and ran back to Selby detrained before continuing to Hull for attention.

What is the line speed /visibility ahead there & how much damage to the unit? (presumably not much as it continued)

That's what I thought but I'm no expert on animal behaviour, in fact I can't understand what attracts them onto the track in the first place

The unit couldn't be driven from the front and had to be returned to Hull in the opposite direction from the undamaged cab. Haven't heard how much damage was incurred exactly.

The train had just come off the junction at Temple Hirst so wouldn't have been doing ECML linespeed, but still too quick to come to a stand once it was apparent that the bovines concerned weren't going to move!

Cows are stupid. And stubborn. They'll gladly stand in the middle of paths, roads and railway lines oblivious to most suggestions that they move, including horns.
