Well surprise surprise. The timetable has changed and as booked there are now no headcodes in anymore. Every time it changes and every time nothing. For those that do have an account why oh why does it never work? What are we paying for? There is no excuse for this. You know when the timetable changes. So yet again I suspect I have got to contact swlines direct. For those that do not have Railmiles you are very lucky. Save your money.

Seeing as I have missed every deadline I set myself on this new version , instead of setting a release date (although there will be 2 weeks of testing) the new version is going out to beta testing tonight.

Here you go, a sneak peek of the new version. No it is definitely not ready for the public yet, but I believe the wait will be worth it in the end and if it all works, it will be easier than ever to enter the journeys :)

Here is the enter journey screen, all you need to do is enter the first four boxes, and as soon as you enter the destination it will find the service automatically, fill in the actual times as shown on RTT, and even the Via point (in this case Via Westbury) fills out automatically based on the actual route (not just the shortest, as used to be the case)... I have been promised there will be a button next to the Distance boxes to enter the route yourself.

What if there is more than one train leaving at the same time? RTT searches a 6 minute window, 3 mins before/3 mins after the public time, working time, or real time of departure, and if it finds more than one you select from this box:

At the moment, only stations seem to be included, so no Underground journeys with mileage yet, so I hope that will return, but it's almost ready and once you get used to it, it's a bit easier than the old one. All we need now is TOPS access for it to fill out the unit number automatically ;)

Sorry to say, at the moment, I think I prefer it how it is now! The journey list in particular looks far too spaced out compared to the current version and you have to keep scrolling sideways to see the data.

I realise this is only a beta version and there are elements that look better but at moment I'm thinking I like the look of the existing version more.

Cheers for posting though.

There is still a fair amount of fettling to do on those pages - including making the font on the tables slightly smaller, forcing the tables into full width on the entire page and bringing back, to some degree, the old shading format.

Edit: which is now mostly done, subject to the views of the testers.

Hi Tom

Ok cool, I'm sorry if my earlier post came across as overly negative (the VTEC wifi was playing up and was about the third time is typed it!).

I certainly prefer the current shading format as it makes it easier to see a days travels. Also is the journey list customisable? For example, it doesn't seem to show the operator any longer?

Also, what will happen with regard changing to the new style? Is there a choice when a subscriber can do this? (or potentially remain with old version).

Sorry for all the questions!

I preferred the old shading format as well, which is why it's already back. I have modified it slightly though given the fact the rows are a little fatter to cater for multiple traction identifiers.

Yes, the journey list will be customisable but not necessarily straight away. That can be set up in the site configuration page.

Everyone will have to move over. RM3 will be shut down for good in the middle of April. Moving between 3 and 4 is straight forward - register to RM4 at the link announced when it is released and then go to the migration page in settings, type in your old RM3 details and voila.

Any idea how long it will be until signups are open?

Not too long. Maybe a few days. I'll probably release it and wait a few days before announcing it though to see how it beds in. Given there has already been a link to a user site on here it's fairly obvious how to sign up if you look at that URL carefully.

Wait a day or four and I have been told that that box will disappear soon, so anyone can sign up :) I am about to delete all of the fake journeys from my page and then move my old journeys across to the new site, hoping Tom has set it all up well and it goes okay ;)

Signed up and data migrated across, however I cannot seem to access my subdomain.railmiles.me page that I setup? ( it isn't subdomain by the way!)

Not sure if it is an issue or just a DNS update issue?

It's because there's a bug which you've hit ;) (there's a reason it's on a soft launch as you can never nab every issue!)

I'll fix that a bit later - waiting for a flight from Glasgow to Gatwick right now and the BA lounge WiFi is horrific.

Thanks Tom

Another thing I've noticed, which if they've gone will be a retrograde step in my opinion, is the traction list seems to no longer be available and the clickable items on the journey list?

Hopefully these are still available and it is simply because we are viewing someone else's page at the moment!

Is there a way to have journeys that arrived mord than x minutes late highlighted red?

As I said before, it's not been formally announced yet at all. I've only made murmurings of it just being now possible to register - it is still beta grade (albeit almost final) software with several bits missing still (which have all been mentioned).

All of which above will be added before I formally announce. :)

Can I ask about the iPhone app? Will it be able to be used? Will there be a new one? (Although I appreciate that it will probably be the last thing you are worried about at the moment.) Or will the only way to put in a journey be via the website or via SMS?

Also in Railmiles 3 it stated RailMiles Labs (coming soon) Backup, Restore & Export. So will this be available?

Regards
