Yet another storm has arrived across the UK and services are already being affected. The big one looks like it could be on Monday. Current weather model output is hinting at gusts of up to 80mph in the South and some heavy rain before then could cause flooding.

So I thought I'd start a thread to discuss forecasts, damage and service changes.

The weather is downright rotten in Bletchley today. And I'm meant to be taking the Scouts up Ivinghoe Beacon tomorrow. I think we're going to get wet.

But more on topic...we'll be going by train to Tring and back. I hope the WCML doesn't get messed up by it.

Woke up this morning to the sound of council contractors chain-sawing a massive pine that had come down a hundred yards up the road. Weather really dreadful all day with continuous wind driven rain. The little Larrigan river looks like a miniature Amazon. Even the dog looked askance at being taken out for his constitutional and English Springer Spaniels are pretty weather resistant!

1606 from Exeter to London has hit a tree between Taunton and Castle Cary. Huge thanks to the guard on the 1520 from Exeter Central who waited for us and so we just caught the 1523 from St Davids and although delayed by the closure between Reading and Paddington we are sitting in comfort on the 1823 XC to Guildford which also meant I got to do the main line spur from Reading to Earley so an added bonus!

Fair bit of water on the roads around north dorset/south somerset. for people who know where it is there seemed to be an awful lot of water between Morrisons in Yeovil and the roundabout at the bottom (by bradfords), the car I was in (a Nissan juke) was really spraying water up higher than the car!

jet stream has shifted south so storms are on a more southerly track

Heavy seas have been pounding the coast at Penzance this afternoon, the worst since Feb 2014 when the line here was out of action for two weeks, which got little national attention as it coincided with the Dawlish event.

Got a lovely surprise at Paddington after the meet today! - No trains. This was due to the overhead wire problems at Hayes & Harlington.
I suspect this was because of the high wind speed.

Looking at the charts, the next storm that would merit a name is a good ten days or so out in the future.

Lol, are u related to Michael Fish by any chance?

Storm IMOGEN is due Monday according to the bbc1 weather report I saw about 2 minutes ago......

Okay. It must've deepened on the 6pm run - on the 12pm charts it was a deep low but the highest gusts were only around 60mph.

Edit: Yup, it has deepened - gusts in excess of 80mph on the Irish coast, 75mph on the Severn Estuary coast. Serves me right for not looking before posting. :D

Edit again: Nope, was user error - I skipped the 0900Z Monday chart, the 75mph winds were there on the 12pm run as well.

Yep, I'm on 1Z35 after a replacement coach from Exeter St D to Tiverton Parkway. After an extra stop at Weston, we're now 56 late on 1A35's timings.

No worries, just reminded me of the ' someone called the BBC this evening to say there would be a hurricane, well let me assure you there will be no hurricane' that we all came to love from the Fish in 1987.

Thank Christ. We've had enough disruption to last the year. :|

Agree, but let's remember this is in The South so thee Daily Mail will be declaring a national emergency shortly with advice to stock tinned food and buy batteries for the torch.

Still some chance of a downgrade but I've been watching this feature for a week now and it's failed to back-down on each model run.

Have to admit, I've not really paid that much attention to it as I'm supposed to be home (in Scotland) all this week.

And think of the impact on house prices!
