Apparently the car was involved in a police pursuit and drove up onto the platform, and three arrests were made.

Manchester Evening News said:Three people have been arrested following the crash at the New Islington stop in north Manchester
Tram services have been disrupted after a car was driven onto tracks at a Metrolink station near the city centre following a police pursuit.
The car appears to have been driven onto the platform and then became wedged at the New Islington tram stop.
Police confirmed three people have been arrested.
As a result services are severely disrupted on the Ashton line.
There are currently no trams running between Manchester Piccadilly and Clayton Hall.
Instead passengers can go from Rochdale to Manchester Piccadilly, from Altrincham to Manchester Piccadilly and from Ashton to Clayton Hall.
