Why don't they just advertise DD for the GE side? it's a bit misleading IMO, don't matter anyway, they have put my application on hold!

April is quite quick considering GTR still have people waiting in the pool, i know someone who passed the process for GTR, fed up of waiting so applied for this and got rejected due to low score.

The manager personally took the time to phone me and explain why I wasn't successful.. it was largely because they are looking for evidence of four key values in the answers and I only scored well on one of them... was March 2015 I was interviewed.. I went to stratford in Jan 15 as well to sit the DFFT which I past- thankfully that wasn't a waste as I needed it for GTR!

I was also too nervous and the other issue was I talked through solving a door fault (rules and regs question) and was honest that it caused a 20 min delay due to a number of issues and they didn't like that as they thought that excessive but perhaps I didn't explain why it took that long as it made them think I wasn't very proficient.. one of the key values

Bit gutting as I scored 71 on the application.

I applied prior to a FGW internal interview as a back up but I past that in late December and then there was a dilemma if to go to this interview. I turned down East Midlands Trains depot driving interview (past sift for that) as I thought well I've past internally for mainline and didn't fancy Nottingham,,, it seemed very strange going to an interview after 'passing' one..

Well it came to light things weren't moving fast with FGW. If the interview was in the summer I would have put more into it but FGW was a distraction at the time. People were still being interviewed in late feb for bristol so I assumed things would happen once they winded down

My girlfriend really didn't want me to pass either! she didn't want the move to cambridge

I am single now and better for it ;)

I also mentioned how playing piano is similar to the train driving competence (I'm grade 8) which probably came across as too out there.. I meant in terms of concentration, accuracy, taking time to read the score, planning ahead..

Oh they also asked why not FGW.. I was perhaps too honest and said I was in the pool for Bristol and made it sound too much like this was an afterthought.. I approached it in the wrong way.. I wanted to go more for the experience as at that time Bristol seemed better as I would have kept my wage and cambridge is so expensive.. it was also strange the last interview I went to I had failed even though I was expecting to be called up for the one prior that I past it felt quite strange,, anyway waffling

There is nothing stopping them offering DD positions to people. You are not obliged to accept it.

I had already passed all assessments with MTR so just needed to have a final managers interview.

Had the interview 3 weeks ago and got the news I passed it 50 minutes after leaving.

Had my all clear from my medical last week so just waiting for my contract to come through.

Where are you in the process?

Just got very reliable information that they are looking for 1 person to start at ilford depot in late January. Bishop stortford and Cambridge have start dates of April scheduled in. So quite a quick turnaround I think

Hi Sikes,

Are these the only positions you believe to be available?

Thanks

I passed the assessments with GTR, failed DMI so applied here but have my application on hold "due to 1000s of applicants"

I guess you scored high in the application form?

Afternoon all :D

Delighted that I've managed to get through to stage two of the application process.

Anyone else here in a similar position?

I can also reiterate that Sikes 88 is correct and that there is a spot in Ilford in January. However, I was told it was starting on the 6th.....

Cheers. Two more tests and MMI then if successful line manager interview I think.

I'm under the impression it was mainline driver!

How much do DD get at Ilford and how long would you have to be there before applying to go mainline? I'm guessing there's a queue as long as my arm to get onto mainline. Me and two others at my workplace are under consideration I.e. put on hold.

Hard to say how long you will be DD if you go to Ilford. Joining now you have no right of automatic promotion to mainline driver. You will have to apply when vacancies become available.
Over the last few years it's taken people 2-3 years, but the establishment is now smaller post the cross rail split. What effect that has on mainline opportunities in I don't know. Long term the ITT for the next franchise requires more trains to Southend and Norwich than at present.

Hi Magoo,

Have you got stage2 @ Stratford on Monday?

If so, see you there.

It will be interesting to learning if the Ilford position is mainline or DD though. Hearing conflicted reports.

Good luck everyone attending.

If it was for a mainline position I think there would be a lot of very aggrieved DD's at Ilford as I believe there are still quite a few at Ilford who still have the right to automatic promotion and they get priority over any mainline vacancies.

Yeah i think so.... it all turned out alright in the end. although with a lot of frustration and being down after the MTR interview. It shows though that if you keep going and working hard at it you can get there in the end.

How are you getting on?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
When I took the assessments with MTR they told us their pass mark was the highest across all other TOC's. I mean take that as you will but as AGR pushed me through really quickly I am guessing it was a high pass mark.

When I took the first 3 exams at the assessment centre I was the only person of 22 to make it through.

I just kept calm and worked methodically where I could see others getting frustrated and wasting time doing so.

Fingers crossed you hear back from them soon mate.

I know they are recruiting throughout 2016 so keep on it and apply to other TOC's when the position arises.

"I went through the whole process with MTR but failed the final managers interview.
IT is highly based on if they like you or not.

I know 3 others who got the job and they messed up their questions but was overly humble and exaggerated how great the job was and it was the best job in the world in their eyes.

I was very confident in my interview abilities ( serveral years in recruitment training interviewees) but guess they didn't like my confident attitude. SO a bit of a heads up for you guys.

I have now secured a trainee role with another TOC and the interview was miles better and more personable.

Good luck to you all"
Explain this please!?!
