I was surprised to find that onboard conductors are now able to issue these Day Ranger tickets from their machines.

I travel from Bamber Bridge to Preston where I normally purchase my ticket by handing in the form and tokens. Each time previously I have asked the guard before boarding at BMB if I'm okay to travel free to Preston where I purchase my ticket. Luckily I've always been allowed to do this and save the £3.20 that I would normally have to spend.

This time I showed the guard my form and he was unsure what my form was but agreed to allow me to travel. Before arriving at Preston he kindly returned to me and said I've found your ticket, you don't need to queue at the ticket office now. I was impressed and thanked him for the effort. It also made it easier in passing the Northern RPIs on the overbridge at Preston. I also got to keep the form as he said he didn't need it. I was told I could reuse the tokens! Bonus.

Looks like it's only those in receipt of the email who can take advantage of this one.

Am I being especially stupid :)

I just went to log in to northern rail to print out my £10 ticket form, and I can't find any way to log in so I can get my details to fill in? Can I just print it out and fill in by hand?

Edit: Never mind, I see what's going on now.

You've found that you just need to type the details into each of the boxes before you print out the form then?

Not having easy access to a printer, I printed out a few of the forms with all of the details apart from the date filled in, so that I could add this in later when I used them. Also the ID code on my form did not display on the printouts, so I added the correct code FF2016 (has anyone got a form with a different code on?) by hand.

Last week I had problems using one of the forms, with the person in the ticket office saying that boxes filled in by hand were not acceptable. I can't imagine why not. So I had to ask that he clarify the problem with a supervisor and only after that was the form begrudgingly accepted.

Yes :)

In addition I don't know which station I'll be starting from so I've done one for each. The code printed OK though.

I'm not sure why they even ask for that information. Market research? What's printed on the rover ticket is the name if the station where you buy it from, not what you have filled in on the form as where you will be travelling from.

I need to buy a whole bunch of off-peak day returns (commuting) - previously I was using quidco and first Hull trains to get 2% cashback, + nectar points, but that seems to have stopped. Any suggestions for what's the best way to buy these tickets now? (Collection at departure, paying by credit card).

Thank you for the heads up. VTWC's seat sales tend to be competitively priced with wide availability, but blink and you miss it! First and standard class tickets are available (apparently), as per the usual.

Anyone wishing to try the Bryn Williams menu can book a first class ticket on the 17:10 or 18:10 from Euston to Nuneaton for just £17 - available almost every weekday during the sale. The usual price is around £75.

The fares are already loaded into the booking engine. No unique link is required.

Peak time availability appears to be restricted to Monday 15th August and thereafter.

It's odd that the GWR promotion is invitation only. If you usually travel by car and GWR want to show you that first class travel is an attractive alternative, how are they supposed to invite you if they don't have your contact details!?

Has the East Midlands Trains 'Internet Advance' special offer (£1 off EMT advance fares booked through their own website) been altered or removed? EMT fares for my regular Liv-Man journey have increased slightly and are now the same price regardless of website used to purchase them.

I always thought this was only to and from London? Just checked now and a journey I'm planning to Sheffield in Sept is still showing as £1 cheaper on the EMT website than alternative sites.
