Sorry can't find last years thread....it's almost upon us ...again

Are there genuine bargains to be had or is it all a con ?

Anyone got an example of a killer deal either last year or this year ?

I wonder if the retail stores are trying to play it down this year. The TV images of people fighting over complete tat that's got 10% off *must* drive people away from certain stores on the day **coughASDAcough**

The main promos must be online instead.

The Black Friday spirit is simply exciting and engaging! :D

Wondering, shall I get a PS4 Pro, a gaming PC, or even wait out until the Scorpio comes out next year...:?

God you can't get away from it. As I was reading your post the "banner advert" above was for The Bodyshop 40% Off Black Friday sale with a Countdown Clock.

I'm waiting to see if Flybe do one, had a e-mail saying something is going to be announced.

As I monitor the fares I use I will be able to clock straight away whether it is a genuine bargain.

Product knowledge is the key to securing a good deal if there are any

Mine's Lloyds Bank!!

I agree with your analogy on product knowledge. Also, it's probably best knowing a wide range of retailers to compare the discounted prices as there's probably gonna be a price war. A Graphics Card from Amazon for £250 is no good if Cex is selling it for less! :p

Whilst I don't generally participate in sales like this, I have noticed that anyone who wishes to smarten up their TV with a Chromecast/Fire Stick can currently pick one up from PCWorld for less than £20, which is very reasonable.

We're all forgetting the true story of Black Friday, where Jesus stormed the temple and punched an old man in the face for 20% off a Nespresso.

Brilliant! Do you mind if I borrow that one for school?

Got a posh electric toothbrush on Amazon discounted over 50%. Even comes with a smartphone app for some reason (I think it's just a glorified timer). Nevertheless, it's a good toothbrush. Pretty good deal I'd say. Amazon have lots of things on deal, and there are some genuinely good deals. Maybe worth a look. Certainly no harm in having a nosy.

I will, however, be avoiding the shops (not least because I'm at work all day), but IIRC last year wasn't all that bad. No-one really bothered going shopping, and certainly not as many fights as in previous years.

Had you been tracking that particular toothbrush, as they seem to be reduced as often as DFS Furniture

Not particularly, but I'd certainly say it was a good deal. It was a lightning deal, so the price has gone back up a bit and it was cheaper than elsewhere. On the whole, it was cheaper than my last toothbrush and performs better. So I think I did quite well.

But bear in mind I've only ordered one thing out of 1000+ items that are being sold at the moment. So there's been lots of stuff I've looked through and ultimately said no to. If you have time to spare at work (like I did on Tuesday), then there's no harm in having a browse.

January 13th is almost two months away. Plenty of post-Christmas bargains to be had by then.

Oh perlease!

I had to have a gander at that reasoning! Apparently there was a rumour once that it dates back to exchanging slaves on the Friday after Thanksgiving, but this has since been proven false. Unless the word 'Black' is the problem, in which case I'd like to know what the various 'Black...' days in America should be called!

Quite. I've only seen Braun Oral B toothbrushes* at anywhere near "full price" in dentists' waiting rooms and certains shops where they put the price up for a few days just so they can reduce it again to give you a fake bargain.

*Other "posh electric" toothbrushes are available and exhibit the same price fluctuations

My parents are doing up their kitchen and had their eyes on some very expensive appliances for the last few months. Many of the appliances were reduced with Black Friday and they've saved just shy of a thousand pounds by buying them today. The deals are definitely out there.

Nevertheless, still was a great buy. Best toothbrush I've had.

Well "nostrabutts" is alive and well.....

Flybe 24 Hour sale seats at £24....

Just booked Glasgow to Southampton in January for £48 return....

Forget snail rail that is a genuine bargain :p
