Unfortunately a person has been struck by a train in the Tiverton Parkway area. the exact location not know.

Train involved was 1A91 1419 Truro to Paddington

As usual, thoughts with family of deceased, train driver and all others concerned.

Venn foot crossing. My thoughts to all involved. NR hoping to re open the line for 1900.

Customer Advice:
Great Western Railway are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. Arrangements have been made for CrossCountry rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys. CrossCountry also accepting GWR tickets on any reasonable route.

One feels for the family of the deceased, plus those currently stuck on services, but unfortunately they're the only ones who will eventually get home.

Someone has complained on Cross Country's Facebook page that their train (19:44 departure to Plymouth) is currently being delayed at Bristol Temple M "due to the Train Manager not being arsed to arrive at work on time."- I strongly suspect the passenger is highly ignorant of the actual facts, I personally suspect that the TM has been caught up in the delays associated with this incident, whilst working their previous train, possibly the 16:25 Plymouth to Leeds.

And somebody on GWR Twitter suggesting that the drivers on each train behind the one involved could step up and drive the train in front.

Feel sorry for the driver, those who apply for driving jobs hope it never happens to you.

Those on twiiter need to realise that deleys are nothing compared to what the family and driver are going thru

Cross Country have posted a very good reply to the ignorant Facebook post which I was referring to earlier in this thread. Good for them. :) I personally very much doubt that the person who posted the comment about the TM supposedly being late (Cross Country state that it was the driver who was indeed stuck whilst working the 16:25 Plymouth to Leeds) will have the decency to apologise.

Me, me, me - the mentality of a small but highly objectionable subset of people. *Nothing* else matters apart from their own personal wants and requirements. Normally associated with a tantrum when something doesn't go the way they would have liked.

Thanks

Plymouth train delayed at Bristol TM all because the train manager can't be arsed getting to work on time. If a passenger was late would they hold the train I doubt it!!!

CrossCountry's Reply
Actually John Colburn, the driver was delayed as they were coming off the train that was stuck behind the Great Western train involved in an incident.

I was picking up a Taxi Fare from Tiverton Parkway, at about the time the fatality occurred, While waiting for them a couple ambulances arrived, then a load of police cars, a police van, a critical care car, then a helicopter flew over, possibly an air ambulance, after several minutes an announcement was made for all the passengers on the platforms to go inside the waiting room, was probably so emergency services could get to the train and save anyone from seeing possible grizzly stuff, the train involved had stopped just short of the platform, I ended up not picking up fare, think they ended up about 2 hours late, thoughts go out to the driver and emergency services and staff involved.

To be fair to the average passenger-when all they are told us 'emergency services dealing with an incident' and TOCs refuse to disclose the truth-ie. Fatality, its no real wonder people get as annoyed and disrespectful as they do!

I think most people would (rightly) be annoyed with a TOC that just made up excuses-many people won't know that 'emergency services dealing with an incident' usually (always?) Means fatality? Its the lack of meaningful information people get annoyed over.

I understand and agree with your point, however for *some* people this still isn't good enough.

I remember an incident when there had been a 'one under' on the Northern Line and trains from the north were going round at Golders Green. A particularly unpleasant woman threw a massive tantrum because the train had been terminated at Golders Green, and "I'm in the middle of f***ing nowhere, what the f*** am I supposed to do?". The staff were initially very helpful in directing her to which bus she needed to catch, however this still wasn't good enough and she *demanded* that the train service be resumed so that she could continue her journey by train as she didn't want to use a bus. In the end the staff lost patience and told her to use her feet and walk, and she ended up jumping up and down and running round in circles on the platform throwing her fists up and down in sheer rage. Quite amusing to watch actually.

GWR have used Person Hit By Train in all tweets. Someone has complained that a TM's update was insensitive, and another that an hour waiting is frankly a joke.

I passed all this on the M5 at about the same time, blue lights everywhere, I could see the train sitting near the station and realised something had happened. Very sad for all concerned.

NRE Site was also open about this particular incident.

There was a Tweet on ATW Twitter a couple of months ago having a right rant about their train being delayed in Platform 6 at Cardiff Central because a person had been taken ill. The paramedics in attendance had requested the patient shouldn't be moved until they had carried out an examination to ascertain whether this safe or not. The Tweeter was saying that the ill person should just be lifted onto a seat on the platform to allow his/her train to leave.
