I was thinking of Epsom Downs being the most spartan in terms of ticket office, shelter, benches, refreshments, waiting areas, bars, hotels etc... in the station area. Basically we are looking for the polar opposite of St Pancras International in this thread!

You can also include stations with through services which also have a regular terminating service.

Marlow.
One platform, a couple of platform benches, one shelter at the buffer stops, one bench outside, a phone box, a cycle rack and a Help Point.

Ellesmere Port is pretty dire for the "end" of two lines. Short hours for the ticket office, a pay phone and a vending machine. There is a shelter but as the Merseyrail trains are every 15 mins you can normally just get on to wait. There isn't much around the station either.

Severn Beach. All it has is some benches and a help point.

[Trivia} - another thread that has the potential for pages and pages of answers. Just accept that any rural line intermediate station is likely to be an answer. Benches and a bus stop style shelter. I cannot be bothered to list any and this is a thread that shouldn't be pursued - please!!!!!

How about a terminus station with only through services?

I'm thinking of Battersby. No ticket office, no ticket machine, no car park... Access is by way of a muddy track!

Blackpool South is pretty sparse

Many branch line termini are like that, Bicester Town was similarly bare before the recent rebuild into Bicester Village

in the station area

That can be read two ways, either just as part of the station facilities, or including nearby facilities. Take Sheringham. There is very little at the national rail station itself, but plenty a short walk away.

Sinfin Central back in the days...

Rosslare Harbour in Ireland is pretty dire, being nowhere near the faclilities of the harbour, not near the main town and at the foot of a steep hill to what limited settlement is in the vicinity. And rubbish/non-existent 'connections' with the ferries a lot of the time.

Chessington South is quite bare.. as is Watford Met

Northolt doesnt have much outside the station , the shops are around 400m away , although there is a leisure centre next to the station

I have to say I quite like these "trivia" threads. I'm not likely to visit most of these places so it's nice to find out a bit about them. The easiest thing to do if you don't like it is not to read it.

Nant Gwernol railway station. Terminus of the Talyllyn Railway. Only a shelter there.
Not a lot more at Snowdon Summit station.

Lymington Pier station doesn't have much, just 2 or 3 bus type shelters and I think maybe a TVM

Used to be integrated into the terminal building, with trains good connections to incoming ferries. It's almost as if they don't want people to use it.. ......

Gunnislake, Looe have minimal facilities. Also Penarth and the current Cardiff Bay station are basic.

I was going to mention Severn Beach too but that's already been mentioned.

I think Northolt might be pushing the envelope of this thread. Some trains do turn back there but I wouldn't call it a terminus. It also has staff, ticket machines, toilets and a small shop inside the station building. Considerably more facilities than other stations mentioned in this thread.

If we were doing this on a 'size adjusted' basis Swansea, I'm afraid, because it is my home town, would be a contender. For a city of 200k the station is desperately unexciting, the more so for being in a now non-central part of town.
