This is something which has changed a lot very recently. The railway has become far more proactive to weather forecasts rather than reactive to the actual weather, both TOCs and Network Rail. We all know that weather forecasts are never 100% reliable, but if the railway is better prepared for the chances of it going tits up, that's surely got to be a good thing.

Your still get cuatomers turning up for a train and then complain to everyone how the railways should be nationalised.

Any idea as to whether the 19:45 VTEC Leeds-KGX is going to be safe? Really need to get home for a birthday...

The 1545, 1645, 1745 and 1845 are cancelled. Can you make the 1815 or the 1916?

Absolutely no way of knowing. I'd say the laws of probability are against you though.

Just hitting the NW coast of Ireland now.

Gusts stronger than expected and it is looking like it is going to get worse.

Going to hit the East coast of Ireland/Wales from about 6:00-11:00 and move East.

This is all going by current reports and may change.

Mutual ticket acceptance and easement of restrictions in place. My advice, jump on the first available and have a contingency route plan handy

XC services MAN-BMH will not run between BHM and BMH

Virgin Trains East Coast are planning to operate a normal service until 09:30. After 09:30, the service will be significantly reduced to just 2 trains per hour in each direction due to a 50 mph speed restriction imposed by Network Rail. Trains that do run may have an extended journey time.

London Kings Cross to Scotland services will run on the hour towards Scotland and with additional stops at Peterborough, Doncaster, Durham, Morpeth and Alnmouth as required.

Scotland to London Kings Cross services will depart at 30 minutes past the hour with additional stops at Alnmouth, Morpeth, Durham, Doncaster and Peterborough as required.

London Kings Cross to Leeds services will depart at 35 minutes past the hour and Leeds to London Kings Cross will depart at 15 past the hour.

From 17:30 onwards, in the Northbound direction the normal timetable will start to be re-introduced. And from 19:00 in the Southbound direction. These are subject to improvements in the weather.

You may use any other train operator on reasonable routes to help you complete your journey.

You may travel on any train throughout today or alternatively use your ticket tomorrow on trains departing before 14:00.

So my trip home will be "interesting"... do we get Delay Repay today?

Transpennine apparantly not running north of York later today.

https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/warnings/amended-services-storm-doris/

Amended services for Thursday 23 February 2017

High winds caused by Storm Doris are expected across the North of England and Scotland during Thursday which may have a serious impact on the operation of rail services.

Current advice suggests the weather is likely to impact services on both the West Coast (Preston to Scotland) and East Coast (York to Newcastle) routes during the middle part of the day.

To ensure safe operation of trains, Network Rail has imposed a speed restriction of 50mph from 1100 to all services between York and Middlesbrough / Newcastle, Leeds and Hull, Sheffield and Cleethorpes, also York and Scarborough.

As a result, TransPennine Express services will not run between York and Newcastle. Customers travelling on this part of the route should use services operated by Virgin Trains (East Coast) and Cross Country Trains. Arrangements have been made for your tickets to be accepted on these trains.

Services between Manchester Airport and Middlesbrough will operate as two separate services - Manchester Airport to York and York to Middlesbrough.

.

Speed restrictions are also expected on the West Coast route with snow being predicted for many parts of Scotland.

Depending on the severity of the weather, some services on the Manchester to Carlisle / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh route may also be subject to delay / cancellation at short notice.

.

Tickets

If you hold an 'Advance' Ticket for travel on a specific TransPennine Express service on Thursday 23 February you may travel earlier on any appropriate TransPennine Express service however, your seat reservation will no longer be valid.

If your ticket is for travel on a TransPennine Express service on Thursday 23 February and you decide not to travel then you will be able to use your ticket on TransPennine Express services on Friday 24 February 2017 instead.

If you do decide to travel and experience a delay in completing your journey because of any disruption, you may be entitled to claim compensation under our delay repay scheme. To find out more please visit our help page.

Yeah it looks like it for now. I'm suffering from a cold again anyway so I think I've got enough of an excuse :D

TransPennine Express services are not running between York and Newcastle from around 11am due to a 50mph speed restriction to all services between York and Middlesbrough / Newcastle

Virgin Trains EC are running as near a normal service as possible until 09:30

Providing the weather improves and no major damage is caused from 17:30 the Northbound timetable will start to be re-introduced and from 19:00 the Southbound direction timetable will start to be re-introduced

A reminder from VTEC passengers

You may travel on any train throughout today or alternatively use your ticket tomorrow on trains departing before 14:00.

They are running North of York, except not to Newcastle, but only to Middlesbrough.

It's worth noting that services are running as normal at the moment (I took a TPE from Durham to Newcastle to work this morning!) and are expected to do so in the evening: roughly, disruption will be from 10:00-17:00, with subsequent disruption with trains out of place.

Ironically in the North-East we actually don't have any weather warnings, except right up in the Pennines; it's just that our trains come from places where things will be much worse!

NR: An object caught on the overhead wires at Wolverhampton is causing cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes until 09:30.

At the moment based on my commute from West to North Yorkshire this morning (no problems by the way!) it seems to be mostly rain rather than wind at the moment, with a heavier downpour in North Yorkshire

Seems like EMT and Thameslink are at a standstill - I'm on 8.15 St P to Nottingham, stuck at Elstree and haven't moved for 45 mins

Down WCML fast services currently using the Up Fast between Tamworth and Lichfield, up services all using Up Slow, however whether or not the weather is the reason I don't know.

4M21 just sent Up Fast as well, so looks like Down Slow and Down Fast can't be used currently.

LM has finally mentioned this: "Fewer trains can run through this area due to debris blown onto the track. A limited rail replacement bus service is in place between Nuneaton and Stafford calling at Lichfield TV and Tamworth.

Some trains can still operate, but London Midland is not able to call at Lichfield or Tamworth, a limited bus service is in place."

Currently running through St Neots at reduced speed - still looks to be a reasonably nice day!
