London to Chester and North Wales VTWC services now being canned between London and Crewe, by the looks of it.

That's the standard Euston 2-line contingency timetable. They may well be doing it to release Voyagers to get a decent service going via the G&SW. Those who think VTWC shouldn't have any diesel rolling stock should pay attention to how Voyagers get used in this kind of situation.

Anyone got any bi-modes? :D (Of course in the old days you'd just shove a freight diesel on the front and get on with it)

Merseyrail currently suspended Birkenhead North-West Kirby, Birkenhead Hamilton Square-Hooton and Liverpool Central-Hunts Cross. Replacement bus for the latter also being disrupted as trees have come down on the A561 Aigburth Road.

That must be very recent. Both trains and road traffic seemed to be OK when I went out for the paper about an hour ago.

2 northbound trains are currently stood at Kentish Town. One is the 1000 to St Albans. The other I caught from St Pancras and I seem to think RTT has it as cancelled from there. It's still full and standing and neither look to be moving fast.

Gusts currently picking up south of London...

A silver birch has come down near Edenbridge Tunnel - chainsaw gang currently finishing removing it after the driver and MOM couldn't. Delays of up to 2 hours on the Uckfield Line.

Some sort of large tree has just been struck by a train at Robertsbridge - resources being arranged to remove it.

Services between Blackfriars & Sevenoaks currently being disrupted by debris on the track in the Cambria Spur area, but it should be fairly easy to remove.

The Up Slow is blocked in the Brockley area due to a fallen tree. Other lines are open but LO & Southern Metro services are now going to be severely delayed over lunchtime.

More of this probably to follow!

Some lines are expected to reopen at St Albans shortly to allow some movement after the dewirement over the top of 1M11 (tree fell on the wires).

(Southern/TL are also impacted by other incidents including a smoke alarm activated on a train at Purley in the AM peak, a failed RRV in a possession at Caterham just before the start of service, and a broken down train outside Victoria earlier.)

Aside from this, VT and LM listing numerous incidents of debris on their routes, including OHLE, as well as no power to some services around the Warrington BQ area. VTEC and GN now recovering after the OHLE return came apart in the Hitchin area.

NR: A tree blocking the railway between Bicester North and Banbury means that trains are unable to run between these stations.

WCML: further to my earlier post 89 it now appears that the Trent Valley is blocked completely (to down trains at least), a number of trains having been held at Rugby are now being sent via Birmingham, 1S48 just now for example (09:30 Euston-Glasgow)

VTWC departures from Euston have just been suspended.

Cambria Spur reopened.

Tree on the line at Broadstairs.

The tree on the line at Brockley is apparently going to take some time to be cleared. Avoid travelling West Croydon/Norwood Junction/Crystal Palace <-> ELL destinations if you can help it!

Up here in the north-east, the ECML is currently blocked by floods between Berwick and Edinburgh so nothing going north of Morpeth. Cross Country and VTEC running what they can but terminating at Newcastle and clearly other services cancelled due to trains being stuck north of Berwick.

TransPennineExpress appear to be trying to run a full service, though latest trains have been run as Newcastle-York shuttles.

(Storm Doris advice: Southerners are advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Northerners will need their big coat.)

:)

I expect what TOCs will do now is suspend services to avoid further damage until the storm clears a bit, then reinstate something in time for the evening peak. This is probably a sensible move.

You can see why some TOCs speculatively cancel morning services in this situation - that they haven't means there are now a load of people to get home.

And yet this forum and social media is full of people criticising them when they do!

I Agree evening peak is now the priority.

Second tree being sorted out on the Uckfield Line now. If the wind carries on in the same manner, more could come down anyway.

Tree down at West Wickham, though it might be fairly quick to clear.

Some of GTR's departure board software has gone down, so everything not cancelled is now shown as "Delayed" when viewed on certain systems, regardless of actual punctuality.

According to the driver of 2O18 that RTT reports as cancelled yet it did depart in service, their new policy in this situation is to not stop trains between stations so they were waiting for the train ahead of that to depart West Hampstead Thameslink before the signaled would clear them from Kentish Town.

LM are now sending a Do Not Travel message for their network for any passengers yet to start their journeys today...

Tree down between Epsom & Motspur Park. SWT diverting via Cobham where possible.

Down Quarry blocked between Star Lane and the Quarry Tunnel for some reason - 1D60 has stopped. All Down traffic via Redhill.

Tree down at Tadworth and trains unable to run to/from Tattenham Corner as a result.

Departure boards restarting across some of the GTR network.

Further update:

EDIT: 1D60 now confirmed to have struck an obstruction on the Down Quarry near the Quarry Tunnel (north end). All Down trains between Stoats Nest Jn and Earlswood North Jn were on the Slows/Redhill Mainlines but 1D60 is now on the move, so we'll see what happens next.

Well done to whomever submitted the report of the fallen tree at Tadworth on Twitter - this has probably prevented some damage to trains!

At least one train has now got through the Up Slow near Brockley after delays of around 1hr. Looks like the line is now reopening there.

Debris has been reported near Kensington Olympia - trains running bi-directionally as needed.

A failure of the electricity supply between Crewe and Warrington Bank Quay is causing delays of up to 2 hours.

I'm on the 09:42 Liverpool South Parkway-Hunts Cross. Train was around 20L, arrived Hunts Cross 31L due to a signal failure between the stations. I remained onboard for the return journey which struck debris near the entrance to Allerton depot. Just left Birkdale 70L. PNB urgently required on my part!

Southern network now limited to 50mph, as of midday. Widespread ticket acceptance due to a service reduction plan in place. Very windy where I am in Surrey!

Trees now reportedly down at Ewell East and Uckfield, apparently. No trains in the Uckfield area due to severe delays. However, the hazardous trees in the Edenbridge Town area have both now been removed.
