Not to be confused with the similarly named thread which as far as I can tell is actually asking a different question...

I was wondering what, for each TOC, is the shortest journey possible, by distance. So we're looking at (in most cases) consecutive stations where a service operated by a TOC calls at both, and obeying any pick-up/set-down restrictions. Some are more obvious than others though. Ones I can think of are:
Arriva Trains Wales: presumably Cardiff Bay to Cardiff Queen Street, though could be Manchester Piccadilly to Oxford Road.
Arriva Rail North: Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Oxford Road.
Arriva Cross Country: presumably Edinburgh Waverley to Haymarket - assume this also applies to Scotrail and VTEC?
AGA: Brundall to Brundall Gardens.
TPE: Another one for Oxford Road to Piccadilly!
SWT: Exeter St David's to Exeter Central, I assume.
GWR: could be as above, other contenders being the two Lympstone stations or Lelant to Lelant Saltings if any services call at both (heard somewhere they didn't.

I'll leave the rest for others...

Arriva Rail North: Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Oxford Road.

That's 43 chains.

Oxford Rd to Deansgate is 29 chains.

TPE: Another one for Oxford Road to Piccadilly!

Another one you've got incorrect!

TPE Edinburgh services call at Haymarket. Haymarket to Edinburgh is just 19 chains.

ATW - Probably between Birchgrove and Ty Glas stations.

GTR - Probably between Newhaven Harbour and Newhaven Town stations.

GWR - Probably between Devonport and Dockyard stations.

That's beat by Culross to Invershin (34ch as opposed to 38ch).

Edit: But Central to Argyle Street is 28 chains.

Greater Anglia's shortest is Braintree Freeport to Braintree, just 62 chains.

...but even shorter is Dovercourt to Harwich Town, 20 chains shorter still.

London Overground will very probably be Rotherhithe to Canada Water.
TfL Rail I think is Stratford to Maryland.

Perhaps someone could give us a definitive list of stations less than 1 mile apart?

I once did Newcastle - Manors behind a Class 40 on 1S15.
