I saw William Roached (Ken Barlow) once going to Manchester from Euston. He'd reserved two first class eats so that no-one could sit next to him...

A few years ago I sat across the aisle from Alec Stewart on a crowded 455 heading into Waterloo, not long after he stopped playing. I don't remember where he got on, but he got off at Vauxhall, presumably to walk to the Oval. I said "good morning Alec" to him as he got off and got a "good morning" and a grin back :)

If the seat is unoccupied then anyone with a valid 1st class ticket is entitled to sit there - but I guess thats a topic for another thread.

I sat behind Carlton Palmer, between Stockport and Dore. He was manager of Stockport at the time and I think he was banned from driving. He spent the whole journey on the phone.

I'm surprised he got a signal for half of that journey.

Another thread bit....what if the person buying the two seats was, let's say, portly and only left half-a-seat yet the carriage was full and folks were standing?

Well in this case the seat was occupied by a bag, but it wasn't full and standing in any case.

I sometimes get asked for an autograph when noticed on the train and am always happy to oblige.

I once got asked for my autograph outside the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpoolby a girl who thought I was one of the guitarists in a band called Paradise Lost who were supporting Sepultura from Brasil. My only claim to fame, she soon realised her mistake. Ha ha. :D

John Stapleton (Morning tv & The Time The Place) - Euston

David Cameron - Euston

Stan Collymore - Heading home from Wembley. Euston - Stafford

Sat in first class next to Stan and had a good chin wag about all things football. As a Liverpool fan was a very interesting journey.
So interesting ( and a few drinks in ) I didn't notice that when he got up to get off at a Stafford for his journey home to Cannock there were a large group of people waiting for selfies and autographs who had all been listening intently to our chat.

The whole Liverpool football Squad & backroom staff - Runcorn

Sat on the other side of the aisle from Andrew Neil (now of the Daily Politics) in first class on a BR HST from Kings Cross to Doncaster circa 1992.

Many - but not impressed by posh boy Cameron , steadily ignoring the VWC staff who had lined up at the sharp end at Euston off an EBW , no recognition / nod or "thank you" after a faultless journey. Ignorant and uncaring Etonian.

Charlie Dimmock spent a large chunk of her journey from Birmingham to Southampton moaning about the train and the lack of service (a Sunday evening on a then brand new Voyages which was only half full) despite getting all the freebies in 1st class. Very ungrateful individual...

I met Mike Atherton on a train from Newcastle ( he had been covering a test at Durham). We were in first class, a bit drunk and he took it all very well and joined in with a bit of the fun. He was very happy to chat and seemed like a really nice guy.

Last year Daniel Craig and his mum (I think) from Euston To Picc.

This was a good 'spot' because no-one else recognized him.
He did acknowledge me when I got off though.

I met news reader and confirmed rail enthusiast Nicholas Owen on a train at Redhill (he lives in Reigate), and chatted with him all the way to London. He is a member of the Southern Electric Group and was very enthusiastic in his conversation!

I shared a grab pole with Richard Osman on the Circle line a few weeks ago. He barely fitted in the train!

Ive never met him but Atherton does seem like a genuinely nice, humble guy and I like his commentary/match analysis on sky sports :)

I once saw the Tory MP for Lichfield, Michael Fabricant (probably spelt that wrong - I'm sure there's a 'u' in there) on the London platform at Lichfield Trent Valley. I wouldn't recognise most so-called celebrities to be honest. Don't care who they are as long as they either have a ticket or the means to pay for one.

Jay Kay from Jamiroquai on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway aboard on of the trains I was stewarding. Had a chat with him prior to the train leaving as well, seems like a down to earth bloke.

My claim to fame is, Pete Waterman. Few years ago he was at Pickering the southern NYMR terminus, to officially launch the Aitkens Restoration Shed, I was having a last mug of tea before going off on duty. We sort of caught each others eye and of all the mudane things I proffered the mug and said: "I can sharp freshen the pot!" His reply being "It's ok mate, just had one."

On trains at Portsmouth Harbour I've seen Michael Sheard, Joanna Lumley, Linda Bellingham, Ben Fogle, Linda Robson and Angela Rippon. All were very pleasant, except Angela, who was very rude.

Once David Icke was seen coming up the ramp at Portsmouth Harbour station from the I.O.W ferry landing, I was in the announcers room at the time, and the comment was made, to which the question was asked, "Has he come on the boat?", some wag replied (Quick as a flash), "No! He's walked!!!"

In my time, I have met, quite a few "Famous people", but I feel something are best left private! However, I might just drip feed a few things, when I recall.

I'm such big fans of Angela and Joanna! What happened with Angela? How was she rude - I can't imagine her being anything like that!

Reportedly Bake Off winner Candice Brown travelled on a Northern Pacer from Stockport to Knutsford a few weeks ago and in the absence of any available seats she sat on the floor under the luggage rack!

She was sitting in 1st class and I approached her, asked her a polite question. She looked me up and down and snapped at me in a stern voice, in a kind of 'don't you know who I am' kind of way.
