It has been interesting to see how the depot at Willesden has been transformed over the past few months. Seems like good work being done there for the new Overground trains.

Well, dont think 378005 is doing to well at the moment, it was supposed to go out on a run last week and failed before it left the TMD

Your post reminded me that 378001 was outside today. I imagine it's en-route to Derby if not there already as it was attached to GBRf loco 66728 via a translator vehicle this afternoon (with another on the rear).

I don't know the reason for the move, but I'm guessing it's going back to have its interior fitted (at the moment it's nothing but testing equipment AIUI).

Yes, the other's 005.

The rest (some of which appear to be fully assembled) are held in Derby.

Its such a shame these trains will serve passengers who live along the old north london line. Their windows will be etched in no time. The stations they will serve are also no go areas when it gets dark. It was assumed that LO stations will always be staffed, but I can tell you that at Harrow and Wealdstone, that is not the case. People still smoke on the LM platforms, and blatantly bring booze onto LU and LO trains.

I presume the windows will have anti-etch film, but what about internal glass (if there is any)?

The most important thing is to keep on top of things. As soon as there's etching, the film must be replaced. As soon as there's paint, it is removed. Silverlink long gave up on this, and once you allow it to stay there's the incentive to add your own mark.

If TfL remove everything within hours, people will eventually give up - although no doubt to move on to somewhere else. Only catching and prosecuting people can actually stop them, but nobody thinks vandalism is a big issue these days. Slap on the wrist and off you go to tag another day.

yeah, we do kind of need to take stronger action against people who vandalise, to act as a deterrent against this

The route between Harrow and Euston is heavily graffitied. It usually gets painted over every few weeks, but the graffiti normally returns a day or two later.

I can quite clearly see very easy access points for vandals to get onto the WCML on my trips to and from Euston. There is literally nothing to stop a vandal placing a blockage on the line, or indeed putting a bomb next to the track.

That's correct, its going back, apparently 001 will be one of the last units to be delivered (had a chat with a Bombardier bloke last week). Unfortunately 378005 hasnt yet accumulated the 2000 miles testing, so the clock resets to zero and it has to accumulate another 2000 miles with no failures before it can be used in service.

From Laurie at UKmodernEMU's states

Report from a friend who went round Derby on Friday 25/4: 377 501/2/4/7 sent to SR, 508 nearly ready to go; various under construction identifiable up to 516.
Also on hand: 378 002 (ready to go?), 006/009/011 complete; various coaches for 008/010/013/ 014/015; 001 and 005 already sent south).

There was a 378 in the shed at Willesden TMD this morning, but I couldn't see the number as the door was in the way.

The TMD has also been fenced off from the WCML and I think from the DC lines on the other side as well.
