hi all,
just curious, how come some service buses are fitted with seatbelts for passengers, but none at all for the driver, how does that work
As pointed above school buses are required to have seatbelts and service buses that go beyond 60mph are legally required to have seat belts. You will find most companies limit thr speed to about 58mph.

The Stagecoach realtime is awful, one of my local bus routes is Stagecoach 38/38A Mill Park/Croft Retail Park-West Kirby every 30 minutes daytime Croft Retail Park-West Kirby but when i click my local stop it still shows hourly to Heswall even though the Heswall extension was withdrawn a couple of years ago.
. I noticed last week that it was reluctant to admit running outside the "6 minute" window. I boarded my bus 1 minute early one stop after a timing point but by the time we changed drivers it was 6 late. RTI only admitted to 2 late. I also note the Service Update s page has been totally abandoned at least as far as Manchester is concerned.

Apart from a few buses dedicated to long distance routes and dedicated School bus es I don't recall ever traveling on a bus with seat belts

It's varies on area i guess, But certainly up there there's very few buses which don't have seat belts fitted (At Stagecoach).

Note that where i said "although most modern buses are (fitted with Seatbelts)" I meant in the cab, although i forgot to say so, whoops!

In theory, my response would be the same. However, that is because I have never seen a service bus driver wearing a seatbelt, as it would be totally impractical. However, they could very well be fitted for use on Private Hires or such as Rail Replacement where no interaction with passengers are required and long distances are driven between pick up/drop off points. The only RRs I've ever travelled on were both coaches and the last time I was on a PH bus was iirc, 2002.

As i said it's not a requirement for the driver to have a seatbelt, so if the bus has been refitted with seatbelts at some point in it's life so it can do school work then they won't fit any to the drivers seat as it's not required.

There is no requirement in PSV law for 'school buses' to be fitted with seat belts - for contracted services it depends on the local authority. This is in England/Wales - I believe they are now a requirement in Scotland.

yea I`ve seen First bus drivers wearing seatbelts, but none fitted to any of our E300, E400 or even the ones out of Cumbernauld, guess drivers safety comes good bit down the line.

As part of the results announcement today, deep in the text release it indicates vehicle orders for 170, worth £40m investment, for 2018/2019.

170....that seems a bit low but with the recent cuts around the UK I dare say there plenty of spares going. At least stagecoach are buying this year unlike others.

Do we know what all 170 will be?

* 14 e200mmc for st Andrews.

delivered:
11 e400 for Mansfield
1 baby e200 for Porth
30 e400 for Worthing
10? elite low floor Dunfermline?
6? panorama Ayr/Kilmarnock?

speculated:
around 10 scania e400 for Swindon (66)
around 20 (scania?) e400 for Witney (S1/S2)

this makes around 100, so 70 more if I've got all the numbers correct. I'd guess possibly some buses for South West (most likely Exeter), Manchester and East (most likely Cambridge), possibly some for MCSL and Midlands and none for Highlands, North East or South East.

Are there no plans to replace the Versa's at East Scotland, in particular Dunfermline where some are a bit rough?

No, if D/line depot is very very lucky, it might get some of those newer solos, from G/rothes or St Andrews which are about to be displaced with the council changes. All depends on who grabs them and if the rest of the older solos in Glenrothes can be gotten rid off? I cant see the Veras going anytime this financial year, would love to be proved wrong....

Also What company was supposed to get the other 9 panther low floor before its business case fall flat and East Scotland gobbled them up.

I believe Stagecoach are waiting to see how the Oxford ULEZ works out before ordering new vehicles for these key routes. It's very likely that the existing vehicles on these routes will see use into the early 2020s.

No plans for East Scotland to ditch their Versas just yet - not that you'd replace them with Solos anyway.
It wasn't Kent that were originally getting the Panther LEs.
St Andrews new MMCs have group standard Practico seats - not sure what the excitement is?

My only other idea was the X7 in Northamptonshire, or X11/X12 in Cambridge ( which got cut back recently)

The X7 is no more than a regular bus service though from Grange Pk to CMK, it has fewer stops as there’s few villages once you hit the A508 south. From the southern edge of Northampton until Leicester, it really is just a local bus service with lots of short duration journeys.

Don’t let the X prefix mislead you ;) More likely is a conversion to Gold standard at some point IMHO

Is the colour scheme on this Chesterfield Dart (35114) replicated elsewhere in the Stagecoach Empire, or is just a local thing?

Newer buses seem a lot less likely to have the curving blue bit of the "beachball", especially on single deckers, are Stagecoach keeping things simpler (as part of the livery review)?
Some of the older E300s in Teesside (original bodywork, not the newer bodywork) have it too:
