Just got my email from them saying I hadn't reached the standards they were looking for. A shame but not the end of the world. Good luck to all of you still in the game!

Sorry to hear that mate. Strange that some people on the last page were told they passed one but not the other...

Yes it is... it just mentioned scores so it's possible I passed but they are just selecting the highest to keep the number of applicants down.

To be completely honest my application was slightly speculative in that my preferred driving job would be with a TOC and not in Tilbury. Having said that I would of course been happy to get through to the next round? How did you do?

Still waiting for an email :(

Also is it not a bit odd they’re telling people before everyone has even done the tests?

It’s the norm I think. There’s set standards so if an applicant doesn’t reach them there’s no point in holding off on telling people. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was actually no human element and it was all automated, especially the scoring/screening.

Not heard yet myself, sorry to hear some didn’t pass but look at the positives and you’re best placed to try again given you know what to expect now.

Yes! I'm through to the next stage. :)

Congratulations! :)
If I recall correctly you got up to question 21 out of 25 on the SJT - this suggests to me my father hopeful theory that they were after speed on that test was in fact total rubbish, now I’m even more worried! :(

It’s a standard speed vs accuracy test. Of the 21 completed if the answers were what they were looking for in say 19, it’s all good. If you do all 25 and only score highly in that same 19, it obviously wouldn’t be good.

Well done!
Theres a fair few tests to do on the day!have you done any before?

No I've done no tests before. This is the first time I've applied for a train driver job. Have you? Congrats on getting through pal.

Believe me I've been kicking myself the whole week because I thought I failed not completing the SJT especially when reading on here how well others had said they'd done. I've been refreshing my emails every 10 minutes of each day haha

They certainly have a different way of recruiting. Don’t get me wrong, it seems sensible this way and more structured, but surely there should be a full application form at some point? At least this way they’re not blinkered by peoples past and experience etc and everybody is equal and assessed purely on their ability in the assessments.

Congrats all :)

I seen this ad the other day and was busy working but I saw the closing date said TBC so I thought there was no rush and work was busy so I left it, I then discovered this site and seen a lot of people and getting replies from them. I finally got an application in yesterday but I just looked on their site now and the Trainee role ad has been removed so I'm guessing they've got enough people now?

I'm wondering if my application yesterday will even be looked at?

If you applied while the vacancy was still live then I would say you're still in with a chance :)

Heard back this morning. Passed VSE but failed SJT. Was expecting it to be the other way around to be honest so quite lost on where I could have gone wrong with the SJT. Always tried to relate it back to the driver role in some way, shape or form.
Any ideas?

Does seem strange, but who knows? How quickly did you finish it? There were a few scenarios that could have gone either way in the SJT, but on the whole I would have expected the same as you in it being the other way around. On the flip side, you should be pleased you passed the VSE as that’s definitely over all the more complex I think.

Can we use any passes for future applications? I know they’re nationally recognised, and with NWR you can use your pass in their tests of this nature again for up to 3 years?

Just received my reply and I’m through to the next stage! I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that confident given the mistakes I know I made :)
