Does anyone have any clue when the next unit will be delivered? Also does anyone know what route it'll take?

Not sure when. I assume they will all take the same route. Tunnel - Dollands Moor - Ripple Lane - Barking - Stratford - Bow Depot - Stratford - GEML - Norwich

The first one came through the tunnel, I assume a loco swap at Dollands Moor, back onto the HS1 behind a 92, off HS1 into Ripple Lane, had a 66 on then sent via Barking onto the GEML and off to Anglia.

A related question that I've tried to find the answer to (but 43 pages is a lot)......what's the progress of the "other" Greater Anglia new units, the commuter stock? Aventuras? Is there a separate thread?

These Flirts look very nice, but they won't be stopping at my station, I don't think......

Underway, there's footage of one at Derby but I don't think it's been seen out and about yet. I don't imagine much time is being spent on 720s while the 710s are so problematic. When they get that solved and volume production of 345s starts ramping down I imagine we'll see a few appear and one end up out on tests. Frankly at the moment the originally proposed entry into service of March is not happening I can almost guarantee you, it'll be more like late Autumn 2019 / early 2020 I imagine before we see any in revenue service. Unless anything goes severely wrong with the Stadler unit testing, they will be in service well before the 720s.

Presumably Abellio will have considered that when tendering and Stadler were unable to put together a bid at the right price with delivery estimates that would have met the requirements (I've no doubt that they could have offered a unit to meet the spec that the 720 meets)

Dare I say the whole order should have gone to our Swiss friends [dives for cover].
To big an order for Stadler in the time period and would also have needed a separate design with more doors...
The 720s really game the seat count and lot of the other bid stuff

The 720s will go into proper construction when the 345 production finishes soon

Its in the timetable to run every Thursday, but will be a 'Q' path of course.
It's in tomorrow as a variation (from the long term tt).
You will know better than me if it runs.
Original word was that 2 units were 'on the way', there having been speculation that the run last week would have included both.
That still leaves the one!

Yes! In fact I thought GA should've ordered from Siemens since they aren't building anything besides the small batch of 717s. German build quality and a nice aerodynamic nose would've been great. I think instead of doing a 5 and 10 car railway GA should've stuck with the 4, 8, 12 - less costly and stick to what you know for infrastructure purposes.

Desiro City build quality seems to much worse than the original Desiro. Also, the Stadler Flirts I've been on in other counties are on par if not better than anything Siemens.

given the debacle with siemens over the state of 700's/717's it's not surprising.
mechanically they are not bad(now....there were lots of firmware problems to begin with), but the final fit-out is abysmal.

doesn't even equate to economy class, more like steerage.
I would sooner take a 319 from bedford to brighton,at least they don't leave you with back ache.

the only thing the desiro's have to their credit is they are pretty quick off the blocks and punctual.
Any more than an hour on these things is not a pleasant experience.

given the passenger numbers I think the level is probably ok. 8/12 car sets on GTR should probably have been 6/12 car(would have been fine with original timings), and with 717's 6 car would also have made for easier maintainance if the design was kept the same.

The interior spec was dictated by the DFT - so if you have problems with the seats and the layout you should take it up with them, Siemens were just building a layout they were told.

The last time I used the 319s was nearly 20 years ago in South London. The seats were appalling, no legroom at all, sitting opposite anyone forced you to clash knees.

In build quality terms? I don't agree, the build quality of the Class 700 passenger accommodation is about the same as the Class 350.

You can't blame Siemens for the rubbish seating layout/seats, and boring colour scheme, that's customer specified.

Here here. And also when it comes to DfT specifications, why is it so hard for the so vocal British public to understand this?

I think the comment you replied to was intended to be comparing Siemens build quality to Bombardier, not to Stadler. That's probably more fair.
