well have read the whole link and the conditions and whilst there is nothing at all to prevent any valid season ticket holder traveling i get the feel thats not what was intended
we will know by probably monday how wide spread the sub £20 rover is used and how well it goes down with train staff and scotrail by the action taken to "clarify " the actual condition off use
thanks to those that answered my post and posted links

Thanks, I also expect and hope there's lots of discussion about this. I shall be doing my weekend after the end of the month.

Staff seem to be very aware of this offer - the barrier staff at Glasgow Q St and guards on a Glasgow - Aberdeen and a Montrose - Aberdeen have passed my Greenfaulds to Cumbernauld season without question

Routes included in the offer are set out in the Question and Answer notes below.

Great journey, did you have any issues with guards/gateline staff?

I only had one guard that had a vague issue with it, that was on a train from Dundee to Edinburgh, and he accepted that he was in the wrong when shown the website - he thought that there was meant to be a code to go with it

I've also done a second day of travelling on it, travelling
09:00 Glasgow Central - Prestwick Town
09:50 Prestwick Town - Barassie
Walk to Troon
10:39 Troon - Ayr
11:06 Ayr - Stranraer
12:41 Stranraer - Ayr
14:15 Ayr - Glasgow Central
15:16 Glasgow Central - Hyndland
15:36 Hyndland - Edinburgh Waverley
17:07 Edinburgh Waverley - Falkirk Grahamston
18:09 Falkirk Grahamston - Dunblane
18:47 Dunblane - Gleneagles
19:35 Gleneagles - Glasgow Q St

i am really really pleased they have chosen the "without restrictions" option and willing to accept the fact there are possible loopholes or ways to take advantage off this great offer as overall there will be some loss off revenue but the goodwill gain far exceeds the possible lost revenue

I received my smartcard on Sat morning and uploaded it with a £10.80 1st class season. I did a small return journey from Glasgow to Dundee to test it out.

Card didn't work at any of the barriers. The Queen Street staff didn't seem to know anything about the offer but let us through anyway. No onboard ticket check on the way out. Dundee barrier staff let us through fine. On the way back ticket examiner was absolutely fine, though he wasn't able to read the card. He put it down to his reader but I suspect it may have been because my card was so new.
I came prepared with a printout of the deal and written confirmation from Scotrail that first class is valid, though in the end I didn't need to show anyone the printout.

We were the only ones in first class. Trains were much quieter than I had expected. I didn't see anybody else using the offer onboard or at the barriers. I suspect very few know about the offer and anyone who normally uses season tickets is probably not wanting to spend any more of their week on a train.

I may try and go further next time now I know it works.

I'm quite surprised that the barrier staff at GLQ didn't know about the offer when you went through - the one who let me through asked me how far I was planning on going.

Tbh both times I 'picked' a young looking female barrier staff member thinking they'd be less hassle! They let us through fine but appeared not to know what I was on about. Looking at Twitter a few others have had issues at GLQ. Scotrail responded to them saying they will make sure that all staff are aware of the offer. I'm sure the situation will be better next weekend.

I also used a season with this offer on Saturday:

I used a Golf Street to Carnoustie weekly season for £7.10 (Actually used the season on Friday too)

Itinerary:
0853 Dundee to Stirling - Guard accepted no issues
1001 Stirling to Alloa - Guard accepted no issues
1038 Alloa to Larbert - Accepted no issues
1106 Larbert to Dunblane (My first 385!) - Accepted no issues
1128 Dunblane to Edinburgh - Guard forgot but no issues when I mentioned the offer.
1243 Edinburgh to North Berwick - Ticket not checked
1320 North Berwick to Edinburgh - Ticket not checked (RPIs at Edinburgh accepted no issues)
1409 Edinburgh to Edinburgh Gateway - Accepted no issues
1425 Edinburgh Gateway to Edinburgh - Accepted no issues
Then had a lovely walk around Edinburgh
1527 Edinburgh to Haymarket - Ticket not checked (not surprised, very short!)
1553 Haymarket to Glasgow Central (via Carstairs) - Guard knew about the offer but thought they would issue a special ticket of some sort. Gateline staff at Central were also fine.
(Then 1800 GLC-Crewe and 2109 Crewe to Cardiff Central which was fun - Had advances for this!)

Seemed to me like staff had been briefed/reminded about it. Overall a great weekend, even if I did oversleep and miss the train to Springfield!

From what I've seen these are the cheapest weekly seasons available, but there are probably more:
Golf Street <-> Carnoustie
Golf Street <-> Barry Links
Balmossie <-> Monifieth
Greenfaulds <-> Cumbernauld

Dunfermline Town <-> Dunfermline Queen Margaret is another I've seen mentioned as a cheap season which qualifies. Although I'm tempted with a Golf Street - Barry Links one to boost the passenger numbers.

I felt more comfortable buying one that I could actually go to the appropriate station and buy (Cumbernauld is included in my bus ticket). Next time, I'm planning on going for Golf St - Barry Links for the purpose of going first class.

Just wondering if anyone else has been taking advantage ?

Last Sunday I tried out the Borders Railway for the first time.

Currently on the train back from Mallaig to Fort William having done the West Highland Line for the first time too.

I had wondered if these services would be busy with folk like me, but I seem to be the only person in the carriages I'm in taking advantage.

I've gone on a second outing today (with spouse in tow), I've done/will be doing (in first class)
0704 Glasgow Q St - Inverness
12:47 Inverness - Keith (declassified)
1818 Keith - Aberdeen
2044 Aberdeen - Glasgow Q St

And tomorrow am planning on doing a run up the West Highland line to Falls of Cruachan and Banavie.

There seems to have been very little use of this offer, the guards on the legs to and from Keith have both remarked that I'm the only person they've seen doing it

Reading the link provided and the above posts, all I need is a valid season ticket on the qualifying routes and I'm good to go?

Yes. Fort William this morning is stunning. Cool, but sunshine and hardly any wind. Shame I have to head home to Dundee.

I'm needing to buy a Dalmeny - Edinburgh gateway ticket next week for work anyway. I presume this would work for a Saturday/Sunday expedition with a companion?

It's on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen route so I can't see any reason why not.

As I put it in the wrong thread earlier -

I nipped down to Cumbernauld, a whole one station away, yesterday for the football on my weekly pass, which I do need for the daily commute, and the ticket examiner when I showed him my pass and said I was taking advantage of the free weekend then pulled out a piece of paper and wanted to know where I'd got on and where I was going which he then wrote down saying "I need to keep track of it"
