Northern Unit Refurbishments

Thanks, thats what i'm thinking too. I also guess this '323s being in addition to the current 243 units being refurbished thing' will also depend on if any 319s go. excluding the 3 units in the thameslink livery (319372, 319373 and 319446).

The 323s will cascade from WMT to join the batch at northern to replace the 319s which will be going for the FLEX programme,372,373 and 446 are only on short term loan til the flexs are on the rails.

Will there be any 319s remaining as 319s? Or are they all being converted to 769s?

Wow that was quick bearing in mind it went in at the end of February. I wonder what what unit will go to holbeck next.
Now the folk at Holbeck have done a couple, they'll have got it down to a fine art... also helps that there's no PRM work required so the most awkward jobs (fitting a big toilet and all the associated tanks, pipes, electrics) aren't needed.

I'm guessing that helped too

Don't know if anyone has had 1 yet but the refurbished 155s are rather smart.

Seems to take a while for them to be done at kilmarnock but their a decent quality overhaul.

May be smart but the seating pitch must have been designed by someone with no legs. Kids have to stand on the seats to see over the cills. noisy horrid things to me.

I have the feeling that when the initial 331s enter service in Leeds in May, this will accelerate 333 refurbs rather than cause early withdrawal of 321/322s.

Well 333011 was done quicker than I expected to be done so I think 333015 will probably be done around the same time so who knows but I think when the 331s get introduced that Northern will probably send off two 333s for a refurb at a time

Can't they just ttansfer some of the other units stabled there to allow another 333 to go for a refurbishment
Why bother when there's no looming PRM deadline for those units? Besides taking an extra one out of service means running a diesel under the wires all day, with the way the 321/322s keep conking out!

Anyway the stabling isn't the issue at Holbeck, it's the workshop that's too small.

But 321s, 322s and DMU's on the Aire/Wharfdale lines won't be an issue (theoretically) since the 331s will have been introduced by may.
So the only issue will be the space at holbeck for another 333 to go for a refurbishment.

I'm not convinced the 331s will be in operation by the May timetable change, and with the DMU that currently runs on the Airedale line during the morning peak being redeployed on to an additional Leeds-Lancaster service, I wouldn't be surprised if the 333 refurb programme gets put on hold

How come you think that, I saw an article earlier this month saying that the 331s were entering service in may as seen here:
https://www.railwaygazette.com/news...thern-class-331s-to-serve-leeds-from-may.html

the DMU that currently runs on the Airedale line during the morning peak being redeployed on to an additional Leeds-Lancaster service
At least that's good news.

that depends but i'm not counting on the refurbs to be suspended
