What depot are you down for pal?

In the talent pool for Exeter. To be fair I’ve only been in the pool for a week so I may have a bit of a wait yet before being offered a place on a course!
From my perspective it would be good to stay in touch to know how you are finding the course, depot etc
When were you placed in the talent pool?

Although not for Exeter, I was only in the pool a couple of months, Fratton (the depot I’ll be based at) is only small, so to to be honest it’s anyone’s guess as to how long you’ll be in the pool, but it might be sooner than you think.

Fingers crossed you’re right :)

Thanks mate, and a journey it’s been too lol. It feels like it’s been ongoing for longer than 9-months (which was when I first put my application in for Freightliner back in July last year).

Probably a random question but what should you wear for your medical?

Were you asked to do lunges or squats or anything?

My invite email said to turn up smartly dressed. I wore a shirt, trousers and shoes. I wore I tie but took that off soon after I arrived anyway. You need to be comfortable, and will be removing your shirt a couple of times (oooo err) for the ECG and Doc to examine you (that’s what it was like for mine at least). As a rule, unless the email said turn up casually dressed specifically, I’d have worn what I wore anyway.

After the Medical itself was carried out by the nurse (hearing/sight/ECG/wee and BMI) I was examined by the doc, who checked my reflexes and twisted me up a bit, and also did a quick overview of my peripheral vision (in addition to the eye test carried out a bit earlier). I didn’t have to do any squats or anything myself, but I guess him twisting my up equates to the same thing?

I went smartly dressed as asked in the email that I received.

@Stigy if you don’t mind me asking how long ago did you have your medical?

It didn’t say that in my email. But I’ll go smart too.

Thank you.
It says it in one of the attachments they send you (sorry I wasn’t clear).
I hope it all goes well for you.

If you don’t mind me asking which depot have you applied for?

I’m actually SWR. They didn’t mention what to wear, so I didn’t want to show up in just anything.

I’m just asking on here as it’s an active recent medical thread.

Thank you! Fingers crossed

I’m SWR too and received several attachments including a letter which detailed what to wear etc. I assume you were only sent the questionnaires to fill out and there wasn’t an attached letter?

It threw me a bit that it was our (SWR) Occ Health who sent me all these details (according to the email signature). Did you apply using your SWR email address? I didn’t (never do, even for SWR jobs), maybe that would influence what details you were sent?

Oh, this is where the confusion lies. I’m SWR soon to be GWR. So you’re going to be based at Wimbledon depot? Being Wimbledon, you have applied for SWR so you won’t get the same attachments as us who are attending or have attended GWR medicals anyway.

Yeah we probably did.

Fingers crossed we should hear something by Thursday next week.
Yes. I was told they should have the D&A back by Tuesday (usually a 24-hour turnaround for the to getvthe results but what with the Easter weekend...) so hopefully Hera by Thursday.

No, was going to ask you the same thing haha. I’m sure they’re just busy but I do hate the wait (doesn’t help my overthinking). I assume you haven’t heard anything?

Im not expecting to hear from Occy health re D&A test results (unless its a fail, which hardly anyone will), I just thought the next we would hear would be from HR with the offer and start details.

That’s my understanding too. I’ve re-read the conditional offer and it states that once all the conditions have been met , I’ll be written to with a formal offer (I assumed email, but I’m thinking it may actually come through the post if things need signing?).

All,

D&As are fine (unofficially, but I've been able to find that much out. Not been contacted? It's clear.)

You'll get an email with your formal offer and you "sign" it online through the careers portal. The documents will also be sent in the post. Nothing to gain by contacting them unfortunately. @EBlackadder and I agree they seem to be collating results and will send everyone's offers out on the same day - to save it being staggered across the time frame of the medicals (ie a week or so)

Haha, ‘willy waving’....that made me laugh, and I don’t generally laugh in the mornings pre-tea :)

Thanks for the head’s up.....(no pun intended ).
