After next Sat does anyone know if GWR are keeping any HST's for contingency/emergency use/in case of problems with IEP's over the summer?

Perhaps this should become a disposal thread.
We’ve charted the run down to withdrawal now we list disposal (or reuse) dates etc.

No they won’t. It’s been asked many times, and every time GW insiders have said there’s no chance whatsoever.

Thinking about the 18/05/19, I bet practically all GWR services into Paddington all morning and in the afternoon will be packed! If I find the 12:24 from Didcot to Paddington reported full and standing then it's either the 12:03 or 12:32 Class 387 stopping service I'll be catching, with my Off-Peak Day Travelcard as they start at Didcot Parkway.

At least with the '387' routes, you can browse the internet longer and not worry about seat reservations!

I shall see.

43009 and 43185 had a great run up to Carmarthen and back today. Thanks for the diagrams, it got me beyond Cardiff for the first time, and my first run in first class on an HST too. The turnout to see it was great, there were about 20 people photographing it at Swansea on the way out which was nice to see.

Some gorgeous scenery out that way, shame I'll never get to see it again whilst on an HST :(

Yes that line is very pretty, been fortunate to do it twice on HSTs, once to Carmarthen in Standard, and then to Pembroke in first class!

On the last Saturday (18th) are there any scheduled HST's from Swansea to London? If so what time please? Many thanks in advance.

I hope that they're worth the wait - not that they were ever going to be much of a surprise! It's been great fun and an honour diagramming the GWR HSTs in their final months of service.

I can't believe the interest surrounding the diagrams!

We've tried to get as much variety as we could out of the diagrams over the final months. I hope everyone has enjoyed themselves, photographing or travelling!

Thank you. It was greatly appreciated. It's helped me many, many times and I'll cherish those memories. My only regret was the sudden Cotswold line LTP finishing a month earlier than planned in February . Gosh I do miss 1W27!

And finally hopefully this week the Pullman lunch service will be available for service on the 1255 from Plymouth and 1303 from Pad. Sadly not the same experience on an IET.

I've never travelled First Class by HST (or any train on the national network actually); purely because I'm not willing to pay over £200 for a return to Hereford from Charlbury (two stations away from Oxford)!

-Peter[/QUOTE]
I certainly didn't pay that for a 1st rtn Oxford - Hereford the other saturday! The 1st class walk up rtn was cheaper than std class with a w/e 1st supplement too. And there were also some fairly cheap advance 1st fares a week ahead but I was not 100% sure I could go until the day so needed to retain flexibility.

I assume you do know the most expensive 1st class ticket you can possibly buy Hereford-Charlbury is £88.20 rtn I assume?

You could do 1W29 / 1P61 on the last day (18th). Charlbury - Great Malvern. (£48.40 First Class off peak return according to NR journey planner.)

How confident can we be that the remaining diagrams will all be fulfilled by a HST as booked?

99% sure, they're definately booked HSTs, they'll only be IETs if there's a train failure or disruption on the day.
GWR want a PR shot on the day, so they'll make sure that they're HSTs as booked on Saturday

Subject to events on the day outside anyone’s control (fatalities, train failure signalling blackouts etc) yes as they are planned to run.

Aplos if this is slightly off topic - but I wonder if GW have thought of having Overture 1-2-5 music playing at Paddington on the 18th (or even the film too on a large screen).

http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/705660/index.html

With specially-composed music by David Gow and no commentary, Overture One-Two-Five was the last complete production to be shot on 35mm film by British Transport Films. It was produced to mark the introduction of the new Inter-City 125 High Speed Train services between Paddington and Bristol. One of the last high budget productions, it was treated to a coat of Technicolor and a theatrical cinema release.

BFI don't have this on free download but it's on some of their BTF collection DVDs so easy to access

OK - Thanks very much. I'll look into it but I think just watching it may have to suffice.

Thanks Peter - whatever you would enjoy most of course, but I'd seriously recommend (given it is the last day) buying an off peak std class ticket, and going to 1st class, and if there is room just paying weekend first upgrade, at least one way.

Obv as it's last day you can guarantee a seat by buying 1st class (or cheaper 1st advance) and then you can reserve a seat on it, which is good.

But obv if viewing from the lineside suits you best - have a great day!

Excellent. Thanks for the extra information! I'll definitely enjoy the day and I'll try and make sure that I post my photos here.

Sorry for asking so many similar questions, but does the 1C26 (last HST) allow for advanced ticket bookings, as I saw that someone wrote somewhere that the service doesn't allow for advanced bookings, and I don't want to buy an advanced ticket for the service only to be told that my ticket is invalid as the service was only available for reservations with off peak singles. The intended ticket is only for part of the journey, and is (according to the GWR booking tool) still available for advanced booking. Many thanks as always.

If you can buy a ticket for that service, then it is defacto valid, as you have an itinerary.
If it is an advance, then you can't travel on any other service, so yes GWR will have to honour it
