Train driver Awareness and recognition Test

I have my first round of assessments coming up soon and I have started preparing for the Train driver Awareness and recognition Test. I have the How2Become software and the test has me slightly worried. Can anyone tell me what the test on the day is like and if it is as difficult as the software I am practicing on? TIA

I’ve never did How2Become so don’t know what it’s like, best thing to do is practice with whatever practice material the company sends you (if any)
Also on the day the person conducting the tests is usually very clear and goes through the instructions first and allows you to have a little practice, which I found enough.
Overall I didn’t find them either hard or easy and came away from the day having no idea how well I’d done especially after the MMI

I really don't trust those online "how to become..." sites - the one i looked at ran through a recruitment process that was nothing like the process detailed on Network Rails own recruitment web site.

My experience of the stage 1 assessments is that the OPC staff on the day are VERY clear on what is and isn’t required. Although they sometimes cannot answer specific leading questions and ‘give too much away’....I found that they were not there to catch people out but instead give everyone in the room a fair chance at the tasks.

And yes, use the practice stuff they send you.

And this is just me....

....but I avoided booze and a heavy meal the night before. Then avoided coffee on the day and set myself up for the assessment with a couple of bananas (brain food!)...and a small bottle of water.....enough to be hydrated and alert but not enough to be desperate for the loo and stopping you from concentrating.

Most advice that I've seen on here is use the practice materials that the TOC has sent you.
I did just that and passed.

how2become tests are quite good to give you some idea what to expect. I used them to practice before OPC tests and managed to pass all on enhanced level. Saying that - not everything can be trained for - some tests (especially computerised ones) are more of "have you got it or not" skill testing. Bourdon test software is available online, just download generator and do few runs every day to get your eye trained to group of dots (try to print sheets and do it using pen and paper instead of PC), practice a bit with drone flying or PC mouse/keyboard games to hone your hands coordination (i think 2 joystick test is one of these tests where people struggle and fail a lot). I was stressing a bit about sound signal counting, but honestly this was one of easiest parts of a test :)

I’ve passed stage 1 and found it very easy I’ve seen how2become material and it’s nothing alike the tests so in my opinion don’t use how2become very very rubbish the practice material that the TOC send is sufficient for stage 1 the OPC tests are very straightforward if you don’t understand ask the OPC representative to go over they will help you , my advice is just make sure you take in the information and you actually understand what you need to do before you do the test don’t be naive

I found traineetraindriverinfo.com practice material for the AART to be near enough to the real test itself. I’d recommend it. I was unsure of this test and passed it 1st time after using this practice material:)

Hi, could I also get a copy of this please. I was about to purchase the suite for £90 but if you have it and don't mind sharing it then it would be appreciated.

The one which worries me a little is the one where the picture flashes up for a second.
