A busy day in Leeds
Not counting 144008 seems daft, considering the class' imminent withdrawal. Surely, count it but asterisk it as no photo or something?
An intense day in Leeds for sure, a nice reminder of how busy it gets just in time for me and my trip there in 3 weeks!
A busy day in Leeds
I think I alluded to being daft when I said I was originally from Yorkshire .
Seriously, it's just the way I record stuff. I don't have spotting books or write stuff down, I only record what I photograph or video in a spreadsheet (2 really ; 1 by place and date and one by train class ) - so if it doesn't get either of those two then it doesn't get recorded. I'm a bit lackadaisical in that respect ; keeps me from getting obsessive (not that there is anything wrong with being obsessive !).
Yes Leeds is a bit busy ... probably a bit too frenetic for me. I prefer a bit more time to anticipate what is coming and appreciate what has been.
Agreed about Leeds being busy, I was there a couple weeks ago looking for units for mileage and walking between all the platforms isn't fun (especially when you get stuck pull in on top of a 158 on P17)
Meadowhall, probably the best platform for ticketless spotting will be around the tram platforms, although that doesn't get you anything heading towards Barnsley
Wow that sounded like a frenetic day. Plenty winners for the book of sights there, you got well n truly stuck in at Leeds.
I'd be counting 144008 if I saw it too. 144015 was my last Tyke Bouncing Bomb too. I looked all over Yorkshire for the stupid thing and when I wasnt looking for it, well more thinking the damn thing didn't exsist, there large as life, it was standing in one of the Bays at York.

Been a good read so far Mr 433. Look forward to the next installment.
When I first started back in 2003 I was taking photos of literally everything and only marking it off if I had a photo or video clip of it. That changed after a few months thankfully! These days I don't even bother doing new sights, it's just about the haulages.
Leeds will be fun for me, but then I enjoy walking at a fast pace. Only needing one 185 will make things easier too, as I can pretty much ignore those. Similar with LNER, as I'll never get them all the 91s can be ignored and just focus on the Azumas (cleared their HSTs a few years ago). If I get a Pacer score (need 13 142s and not much less with the 144s) then great, but I will prefer to get my Yorkshire EMUs and any winning 150/153/156/158s in. Only need two Northern 158s, 5 150s and not too many 153s or 156s, so it should be easier to identify winners quickly.
Ooh, SNCB 18s are rather good fun. It's been WAY too long since I last travelled on one. The 21s and 27s were more rateable mind, by god they were noisy!
Those old EMUs you sampled, also surprisingly good fun. I had one as my very first Belgian train on a leap from Midi to Nord in January 2013. It's just hit me how long ago that was!
A shame you didn't get to explore Liege, from what I remember of it in the late 1990s it is a gorgeous city.
Kudos for getting a 373 to Brussels, a very good choice. The refurb on 373s is, in my eyes, brilliant. You *should* have had 373212 on the back, if you're interested, but that's assuming they still use numerical pairs on 373s these days.
Good sir you have made me want a 373 bash again...
That was an excellent read 433, I do like to read about the locos on main land Europe. I would get severely lost doing an InterRail though I'd love to do one.
I've watched many videos on YouTube and seeing stock top n tailed by the 18's always makes me wish I was there doing them. Even some when theres 2 rakes together, looks like a top n tailed set, with another rake attached to the tailing loco. Ain't seen that in the UK, since the late 80's, early 90s on the West Coast, normally at Carlisle.
I look forward to anymore shenanigans with trains on this trip.
Do I deduce Tech, you done the German bunnies back then. I've heard they were excellent, a guy I know, always spoke fondly of them. He used to always say, your young lads, get yourself out there, the Benelux region has some cracking locos to ride behind, you's lot would love it. The depots were apparently a doddle to get round at weekends too. We never did it, not even a thought went into it.. He spent more time doing those jaunts than in England.
Sorry 433, if I hijack your thread, my apologies.
Yep its something that Taurus's do often when accelerating think its something to do with the motors or whatever.Did that loco actually play a bit of a tune or was it the PA System?
I look forward to hearing about the 218s too.
I said:... blah blah blah ... DB 146 004-7.
(I must admit to not be entirely sure what the final digit represents ... I think it might be depot but if someone wants to enlighten me, that'd be good).
Since no one did my work for me and I want to educashunate y'all , I looked it out myself. It is the Prüfziffer or Check Digit and is ...
" ... calculated from the first eleven digits. For this purpose, the sum of digits of the number sequence is formed, which results when the numbers are alternately multiplied by 2 and 1 (first digit with 2, second with 1, third again with 2, etc.); the difference of this checksum to the next multiple of ten forms the check digit. "
Hope that is clear to everyone now.
Very clear. I type this approaching Putney, using the wifi on what would presumably be 707-012-8!Since no one did my work for me and I want to educashunate y'all , I looked it out myself. It is the Prüfziffer or Check Digit and is ...
