Hi,

So maybe like 12-18 months ago I received a fine from Metrolink for not having a ticket.

They give you like a few weeks to pay it, and so I went and paid it, nothing major, only £50, all good... Or so i thought.

I then got a letter maybe 3 months after saying I hadn't paid it and they now wanted the whole £100 or whatever it is. So I filled the letter in saying I'm disputing it as I've already paid it.

I sent that off, and didn't hear anything back for well over 1 year.

Yesterday I received a court summons for "not paying the fine" even thought I've sent them my bank statements with proof of payment - The court date is for around March 2020.

Is there any way i can get in touch with them and have this sorted, as it's getting ridiculous now.

How did you pay the initial penalty/standard fare?

I imagine bank card as they say they have sent proof of payment via bank statements
I more meant the medium used - i.e. over the phone with a human, via an automated payment line, or on a website (or even by cheque!)

I paid by bank card, in person at the local metrolink information place - I'm not sure what you call it. I checked I was able to pay the fine there on their website.

They gave me a receipt, but as it's been way over 12 months I've likely thrown this out

In the circumstances, it's probably worth having a good look anyhow - and try to find your bank statement from the time (or pay your bank for a duplicate copy) as an entry showing a payment of the right amount at the right time to Metrolink goes quite a long way to proving that you did pay up.

That's good. If you can figure out what day it was then they should be able to figure out who was working at the time. The fact that you're able to testify that you paid the fee, in person, goes a long way toward casting doubt on their case if this matter were to end up in court.

You might email them what you said in the first post.

Then if they insist, get a bank statement (perhaps you can see this online? A printout or even photo of part of the computer screen may do.)
