Is there much scrap (rather than scheduled!) movement over the two festive weeks?

Quite a few 142’s still at NH when passed about 10 mins , seem to be have eradicated from South Yorkshire. All former 142 services now worked by 144’s and 150’s .

Thursday 19th Dec looks like only the Worksop to Euro Metal Recycling (EMR) ran.
The Holbeck to Gascoigne and Sheffield to Workshop did not run.
At 3 units a trip to go for scrap and over 60 to go that's going to take a few weeks even assuming the scrapyards can handle them so quickly.

142016 + 142022 + 142025 have arrived at EMR Kingsbury for scrapping. According to a post on the Pacer Rail Group, the three that went there last week were “in a mess”.

016, 022 and 025 arrived at Kingsbury today. Here's a post on Facebook from the driver that took them in today regarding 088, 093 and 096.

I definitely agree and I'm sure in private the TOCs do too but the Pacers have now become toxic to passengers, politicians and the press. Even people on here were demanding refunds and discounts for the 'failure' to withdraw Pacers. Unfortunately Politicans influenced by the media have meant that there is no conceivable way the Pacers could not be withdrawn at the earliest possible opportunity.

Whilst this is undoubtedly true, if central Governments of all persuasions, had been doing their jobs properly over the last twenty years by increasing capacity along with demand, rather than letting the regional railway fester, then the pacers probably wouldn't have become so politicised.

One or two locos that have gone to Booths and EMR in the past have re-emerged. So while evidence so far suggests the Pacers are being cut up fairly quickly, do we know for sure that scrapping is the agreed / contracted end game for these units or is there a remote possibility a few could be sold on?

Thanks for the update but suggestions upthread suggest 21, 26 and 60 are also stored at Hull Botanic Gardens with no indications they’ve moved on yet.

Why would you even bother because anyone interested should by now have spoken to Angel and/or Porterbrook about what they want. If they haven't, then they probably haven't got the aptitude to preserve one, in all honesty. It's not exactly been a secret they're going in the bin.

Perhaps some enterprising scrappy will sell a few to Iran, which is where some 141s went. Oh wait, maybe there’s a a problem with that idea these days!

Updated as of Thursday 19th December 2019 to include any amendments regarding scrapped units and those going in storage. I, for one, am surpised that no heritage railway has snapped up any of the class 142's yet.

There is something in this months Rail mag which mentioned about heritage lines using Pacers which would enable them to get ot of the rut and look beyond the pre-1970's railway, as Rail states that the next generation of enthusiasts will be looking back to the Pacers.

Red - withdrawn.
Orange - scrapped.

Should be just 9 after 01/01/20, all of which need to be coupled to a PRM-compliant unit. Question is, which 9?

As far as I am aware, Iran replaced the Class 141s with new DMUs arond 2005: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stock_used_by_railways_in_Iran

They also ordered 450 new DMUs from Hyundai Rotem two years ago, so it is doubtful they would be keen to take on redundant Class 142s. https://www.railjournal.com/rolling-stock/iran-orders-450-dmu-cars-from-hyundai-rotem/

Interesting that 142033 went by road to Landore. Wonder if it has a future with TFW or just spares?

It probably went by road because something happened to it at worksop, since the ones that went at the weekend went for spares it has probably gone for the same reason
