RAIL said:
Transport for Wales told RAIL in October that it planned to use former Northern '142s' as parts donors for its own fleet, but there are suggestions that the trains could yet be used to replace TfW Pacers. As this issue of RAIL went to press, TfW had yet to confirm the plans.
both units are at gascoigne wood, this could be what leaves on tuesdayThanks
In RAIL 895, on page 18, Richard Clinnick claims that five 142s have moved under their own power to Wales in two batches (but listed together as 142012/042/049/079/086), so I interpret that as the first three which I knew about (142012/079/086) and a further two which are new ones on me (142042/049) - when did these two move...?
.
if something happened to one of there pacers (like the fire yesterday) would one of these replace it or would they not be cleared to run"Parts donors" makes more sense to me, though are five units really required for that just for another 7 months of operation, or is this normal if production of Pacer parts has just stopped...? As for the ex-Northern Pacers replacing some of TfW's Pacers, that makes no sense to me as not only do they not have dispensation to operate in a non-PRM compliant state, but they're also apparently in worse condition.
Ah thanks, so yet again, what "has happened" hasn't happened yet...both units are at gascoigne wood, this could be what leaves on tuesday
The simple fact of the matter is they haven't received dispensation so wouldn't be allowed to run, although I suppose they could receive it later...if something happened to one of there pacers (like the fire yesterday) would one of these replace it or would they not be cleared to run
Wasn’t know till just knowIf known, which units are making the journey?

In RAIL 895, on page 18, Richard Clinnick claims that five 142s have moved under their own power to Wales in two batches (but listed together as 142012/042/049/079/086), so I interpret that as the first three which I knew about (142012/079/086) and a further two which are new ones on me (142042/049) - when did these two move...?
The article also states:
"Parts donors" makes more sense to me, though are five units really required for that just for another 7 months of operation, or is this normal if production of Pacer parts has just stopped...? As for the ex-Northern Pacers replacing some of TfW's Pacers, that makes no sense to me as not only do they not have dispensation to operate in a non-PRM compliant state, but they're also apparently in worse condition.
They were built between 1985 and 1987, so they range from 33 to 35 years old, and some of the specified parts have changed since then, but I get what you're saying. I thought production of spare parts for Pacers ended in 2019 as it was thought that the units wouldn't be running in 2020...?Well they are coming up to 40 years old, so parts are probably very difficult to get hold of, so stripping the ex Northern ones is probably the only way of keeping the TfW fleet running.
i did one for another thread the other dayCould you do one for tfw
i have just been thinking, if they use the one for spares at cardiff they have 4 at landore. if the 4 at landore are then used would this then not allow the class 37 sets to return back to colas? i imagine pacers are cheeper to lease and run"Parts donors" makes more sense to me, though are five units really required for that just for another 7 months of operation, or is this normal if production of Pacer parts has just stopped...? Again, of the stock you mentioned in your post, Transport for Wales have only received dispensation for PRM non-compliance for the 15 142s and 15 143s they acquired from Arriva Trains Wales (until 31/7/20) and for the Mark 2s until 30/6/20, though also again, this could change...i have just been thinking, if they use the one for spares at cardiff they have 4 at landore. if the 4 at landore are then used would this then not allow the class 37 sets to return back to colas? i imagine pacers are cheeper to lease and run

Also, as TfW Rail operate 15 142s and 15 143s, surely only some 142 parts can be fitted to 143s, so what would be used as a source of the different 143 spares...?
Where did you get that info?
Since Leyland and BREL don't exist anymore, I'm pretty sure spare parts wouldn't have been manufactured for a long time!
So all Pacers stay till July 31i did one for another thread the other day(operator is there because i split it off a larger list)
